Born on the 18th of August, 1980, Preeti Jhangiani, is an Indian movie actress, who has worked in several movies during her acting career. Although she has somewhat retired from full scale acting at present, she has worked in not just Hindi movies but also in movies of other languages such as Tamil, Urdu, Kannada, Punjabi, Bengali, and Telugu. Apart from playing lead roles, Preeti has also done supporting roles during her career. She is better remembered for her roles in the movies Mohabbatein, which released in the year 2000, and Awara Paagal Deewana, which released in the year 2002.
Preeti Jhangiani was born in the city of Mumbai, India into a Sindhi family. Her father’s name is Gobind Jhangiani and her mother’s name is Menka Jhangiani. Preeti also has a sister, whose name is Deepa Jhangiani. Preeti completed her school education from G. D. Somani Memorial School in Mumbai and then from St. Joseph’s Convent, Mumbai. She also completed her college education from Jai Hind College also in Mumbai.
Preeti made her first appearance in a music video produced by Rajshri Productions named as Yeh Hai Prem opposite Abbas. This made her famous almost overnight. From then on she appeared in a number of commercial ads for various brands such as Nirma Sandal soap. Her acting career started with a Malayalam movie Mazhavillu. She was cast alongside Kunchacko Boban, who is a famous Malayalam actor. Thereafter, she acted in 2 Telugu movies, Thammudu and Marasimhanaidu. The former had Pawan Kalyan in the lead role and the latter had Balakrisha in the lead.
She made her Bollywood debut with Mohabbatein in the year 2000. The movie was directed by Aditya Chopra and was an Indian musical romantic movie. The movie was filmed in India and the United Kingdom. The multicast movie had several major actors from Bollywood such as Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The movie also had other debutants such as Jimmy Shergill, Uday Chopra, Jugal Hansraj, Kim Sharma, and Shamita Shetty. Mohabbatein was a major success both commercially and critically. It was also the highest grosser of the year 2000 and went on to win several Filmfare Awards in the Best Supporting Role and Best Actor categories.
Her next movie was Awara Paagal Deewana, which was an action comedy movie that released in the year 2002. The movie was directed by Vikram Bhatt and had several major names from the Bollywood industry such as Akshay Kumar, Jhonny Lever, Suneil Shetty, and Paresh Rawal. The story of the movie is loosely based on the Hollywood movie The Whole Nine Yards. The action scenes of the movie was also choreographed by Dion Lam, who is a stunt director and has worked on several popular Hong Kong movies and the popular Hollywood movie The Matrix.

After Awara Paagal Deewana, the next big Hindi movie she has worked was LOC Kargil. This movie released in the year 2003 and was directed by J. P. Dutta. The story of the movie was mainly based on the Kargil war that was fought between India and Pakistan. The movie was another multicast movie that also featured Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Sunil Shetty, Akshay Khanna, Nagarjuna, Manoj Bajpayee, Sanjay Kapoor, Raj Babbar, Kiran Kumar, Mohnish Behl, Sudesh Berry, Ashutosh Rana, and Milind Gunaji to name a few.
In the year 2004, she worked in an action drama movie Aan: Men at Work that was directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. The movie featured Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Shatrughan Sinha, and Sunil Shetty in the lead. Other actors in supporting roles included Jackie Shroff, Lara Dutta, Raveena Tandon, Rahul Dev, Om Puri, and Irrfan Khan. The story of the movie revolved around a police officer who was sincere and determined in getting rid of crime from his city.
That same year Preeti also worked in a Kannada movie Omkara, which was a crime thriller. Upendra was cast opposite Preeti in the movie. Written and directed by Shivamani, OMkara was based on the connection between the movie industry and the Mumbai underworld mafia. The movie received a record-opening in the first week and went on to become an above average grosser.
In the year 2005, Preeti worked in a movie named Chehraa alongside Dino Morea and Bipasha Basu. The movie was a thriller and released on the 18th of February, 2005. Directed by Saurabh Shukla, the story of the movie was more of a love triangle. Bipasha Basu plays the role of psychiatric patient and both Dino and Preeti are professional psychiatrists. Bipasha plays the role of the psychiatric patient very well and so does the other casts.
Preeti Jhangiani married Parvin Dabas on the 23rd of March, 2008. Parvin is also a reputed actor in the Bollywood industry. She gave birth to their first child, Jaiveer on the 11th of April, 2011 their second child, Dev, on the 27th of September, 2016.
Preeti has worked with several big actors of Bollywood during her acting career. She was one of the lucky debutants who got a chance to work with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan in her first Hindi movie Mohabbatein.
