There are several Indian actors who have gained immense popularity due to their acting skills and talents. One such actor is Pavan Malhotra. He has worked in both Indian movies and television programs. Although he is normally seen playing supporting roles in movies, his roles are never too short. He plays a significant role in the movies he normally works. Pavan has also worked in movies of other languages such as Telugu. He has won several awards during his lifetime for his acting talents in Indian movies and television shows.

Early Days

Pavan was born on the 2nd of July, 1958 in the capital of the country, Delhi. His father, Trilok Raj Malhotra, who has passed away, was a businessman. His business involved making machine tools. On the other hand, his mother, Asha Rani Malhotra, was a housewife. Pavan had 2 elder brother and 2 elder sisters, out of which one elder sister has passed away.

Pavan grew up in Nawabganj, which is a part of Old Delhi. He completed his school education from Manav Sthali School and later graduated from Hansraj College, Delhi University in Arts. After completing his education, Pavan ventured into theatres. He had to pass through some tough times when he joined the theaters. He used to feed cows at cowsheds and sell bread in order to get some extra earning. His acting talent made him go to Mumbai, where he started working as an assistant on the sets of a popular TV series, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi. This was during the year 1984. He got his first break as an actor in Nukkad that released in the year 1986. Nukkad was made by Saeed Akhtar Mirza and was aired on Doordarshan channel.

Career

As discussed above, Pavan started acting from the popular television show Nukkad in the year 1986. He did the role of Hari in the show, who was a hardworking and humble youth. Hari was the owner of a small bicycle repairing shop and loved Madhu. Pavan’s acting skills in Nukkad got noticed very easily. He soon found himself working in movies. His first movie was Ab Ayega Mazaa, which was made by Pnakaj Parashar. This was in the year 1984.

Pavan was one of those few lucky ones who got a chance to work with some of the biggest directors in India of all times. These include Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Shyam Benegal, Saeed Akhtar Mirza, Roland Joffe, and Deepa Mehta. His first regional movie was Bagh Bahadur that was made by Buddhadeb Dasgupta. The movie was in Bengali and the story was basically about a man who preferred to paint himself like a tiger and dance in the villages of Bengal. Pavan did the role of Ghunuram and the movie released in the year 1989. He won the BAFTA Award for his role in Bagh Bahadur.

The same year saw the release of Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro, which was his next big movie. He played the role of Salim in the movie and it was directed by Saeed Akhtar Mirza. The movie did go on to win the National Film Award in the Best Feature Film in Hindi category in the year 1989 and a National Film Award in the Best Cinematography category in the year 1990.

Pavan has worked in several movies during his acting career some of which were good ones and some that did not fare well at the box office. Some of the movies in which he has worked include Khamosh, Sau Crore, City of Joy, Pardes, Earth, Tarpan, Aithe, Fakir, De Taali, Don – The Chase Begins again, Black Friday, Delhi-6, Ek Tho Chance, Road to Sangam, Bindi Bazaar, and Badmaash Company, to name a few.

His next big movie was Aithe, which was a Telugu movie. He did the role of Irfan Khan and the movie was directed and written by Chandra Sekhar Yeleti. The story of the movie was all about hijacking and underworld criminal nexus. The movie was released in the year 2003 and it went on to win several awards. The movie was remade in different languages such as Naam in Tamil and Wanted in Malayalam. The former was released in the year 2003 and the latter was released in the year 2004. Aithe won the Nandi Special Jury Award and the Filmfare Award in the Best Villain category.

Apart from movies, Pavan Malhotra has also worked in several television shows during his acting career. He started off with Nukkad in the year 1986 and went on to work in Zameen Aasmaan in the year 1995, Aahat in the year 1997, XZone in the year 1998, CID in the year 1997, Circus in the year 1989, 9 Malabar Hill in the year 1997, Khamoshiyaan…Kab Tak in the year 2001, Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny in the year 2003-2004, Laagi Tujhse Lagan in the year 2009, and Khidki in the year 2016.

In the present year, 2019, Pavan is going to appear in 4 different movies. The first is Kesari, which is directed by Anurag Singh and also features Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The movie is all about a historical action-war that was fought between the Sikhs and the Arabs. The next one is Setters, which is a crime thriller directed by Ashwini Chaudhary. It also features Ishita Dutta, Shreyas Talpade, Vijay Raaz, and Aftab Shivdasani. Family of Thakurganj is an upcoming movie that will also feature Pavan along with Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill. Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai is another upcoming movie featuring Pavan Malhotra.

Pavan has worked with several good and highly popular actors of Indian cinema. These include Hrithik Roshan, Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, and Farooq Sheikh, to name a few. His dedication towards his work has earned him the respect and popularity that he enjoys today. In the year 2016, in order to mark his 25 years in the Indian movie industry, a retrospective was held at the India International Center or IIC in Delhi. Pavan is married to Aparnaa Malhotra, who is a writer by profession.
