What’s Your Rashee? Review
Movie Review: What’s Your Raashee?; Star Cast: Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra Director: Ashutosh Gowariker; Rating: ** – Ends up being boring.
The movie begins at Bardoli village, Gujarat where a wealthy old man decides to write his assets in the name of his grandson Yogesh Patel (Harman Baweja), the only person in the family to remember his maternal grandfather on all occasions (read birthdays). Yogesh is doing his MBA at Chicago with a rocking life style of a sincere student in the day time, popular guy in the campus and a DJ at a night club. But things are not rosy at home in Mumbai where his elder brother has taken a huge amount of loan and lost it in stock market crash and is not able to pay back to several people including a local bhai. He is supposed to give attendance everyday at Bhai’s office and he is being constantly threatened by two chelas of the dreaded bhai who has a style of threatening defaulters – he would cut the fingers by using a betel nut cutter.
A family astrologer predicts that within a very short time Yogesh would get married and he would get a fortune on the very same day. Yogesh makes an urgent visit home after learning of sudden ill health of his dad, which turns out to be a false news and he is further taken aback by the ridiculous request made by his family members – he has to marry a girl in 10 days in order to save his family from an eventual complication and disgrace. After a long phase of jet lag and persuasion and emotional blackmail by family members he agrees to marry and being a principled man he refuses to accept dowry. He starts reading a book which he happens to find at home and what’s that book all about? No prizes for guessing – “What’s your Rashee?” and then starts the poor translation of Linda Goodman’s sun signs book into a loose movie plot. As if it is not enough, there are two additional silly and forgettable sub plots.
The girls start entering in a random zodiac fashion and each zodiac has a story to tell. Ashutosh Gowariker struggles to stitch a convincing story relevance-wise as well as astrology-wise. Some zodiac signs lack convincing characterization and a few overlap. Only a few succeed in making an impact due to the versatile Priyanka Chopra who delivers every character with sheer conviction and brilliant performance.
Anjali (Mesh) with a slouch and a bad dressing sense, Vishakha (Vrishabh) with a childish behavior who wants to test the person, Kaajal (Mithun) a vivacious and bubbly girl who thinks it is a must to give some time to understand each other before marrying, Hansa (Karka) a traditional girl with a broken heart, Mallika (Simha) an ambitious and headstrong dancer, Pooja (Kanya) a doctor who wishes for a husband to support her in every venture of hers, Rajani (Tula) a dominating business person for whom the marriage is a business contract to save her from an ongoing CBI enquiry, Nandini (Vrishik) who has a conservative exterior with a diametrically opposite true nature and who is passionate about becoming a supermodel, Bhavna (Dhanu) an astrologer with seductive charms, Jankada (Makar) a school going underage girl, Sanjana (Kumbh) a sophisticated and a straightforward girl and lastly Chandrika (Meen) a filmy kinda person who believes in re-incarnation and second lives….huh
While adapting the extremes of every character to the demands of screen, the story loses it’s plot (if at all it had any) in a big way only to be saved mercifully by the brilliant Priyanka Chopra.
Music has always been a strong point of Gowariker’s films here it’s a downer. Every zodiac breaks into a compulsory song with only very few being catchy. The story becomes so predictable in the second half that you wait for the movie to get over and start counting how many signs are still left and with no interest left to see which sign the protagonist ultimately marries.
From whatever little you showed us (for a fraction of a second) on the screen Mr. Gowariker, I could gather that Yogesh Patel is Mithun moon sign and Scorpio sun sign. But his birth details do not match with the chart generated towards the end of the movie. But you were so busy adapting extremes of Priyanka Chopra’s 12 zodiac signs, you completely neglected the characterization of the main lead. He is just a foreign returned student with some music knowledge and giving all similar responses, exclamations and surprise reactions to the extreme idiosyncrasies convincingly exhibited by Priyanka Chopra’s characters. Harman Baweja doesn’t impress overall. However, the rest other cast members have put up a good show.
The film would have been a little more bearable had it been under three hours but a running time of 3 hours and 30 minutes appears far too much. If you may ask whether to check it out or not well there are only two reasons to watch this astrological blunder made by Ashutosh Gowariker – Priyanka Chopra and Priyanka Chopra.

It’s an amazing achievement. Priyanka gives soul to all the 12 characters she plays.The actress achieves individuality for all her characters while giving the plot a homogenous flow.she balances every characters’ inner life in the swarming but serene paradigm of the plot creating for each of the 12 intended brides an inner life and an outer glow within a restricted time-span. As for Hurman, this film is his actual debut. His equation with Priyanka is similar to Shahid Kapoor’s vis-Kareena Kapoor in ‘Jab We Met’. Hurman is warm and sincere and ever-articulate before the camera.
A lovely uncluttered, unassuming and transparent film from Gowariker!
The reveiw points the interest towards pranks and hurman does not sum up much interest towards himself but he does contribute the ending line to the film.

What’s your Rashee is an average(2.8 star) entertainer, heaven for those who love watching songs and good dances in a movie.
Priyanka’s acting was truly exceptional, Harman was lucky to get a role that didn’t required him to do much with displaying emotions on his face, otherwise he would have again bagged a mediocre acting review. He just kept giving an OK NODE to what girls’ say, in exactly same way throughout movie(Again, Harman bagged something near to Mediocre review)
Whole Movie was nothing more then meeting girls of each Rashee and watching song dedicated to each of them and would be avoid-avoid thing for buying second show’s ticket mainly because all the songs are easily available for download.
Climax was like DAVID DHAWAN STYLE movie with all the villains, heroes at same place. It was too mediocre and ruined the taste of whole movie.
Had Ashu worked more on Climax, may be, he could get better review.
So, If you are having bore weekend then go for What’s your Rashee.

It was an excellent movie and refreshing, had me in sticthes. The hero can dance man wow.
Priyanka excelled at her performances, the only one thing is that the leo role should have been the libra, and libra the leo.
Wish Hansa would have got him in the end.
But Atosh dont worry about people trying to put you down. Whenever someone tries something new, they will compare to your old work.
But I will recommend anyone to see this movie. The Capricorn role should strike a nerve in many dummies who try to do child marriage.

the movie was a disaapointment but harman and priyanka were good.
The movie was a bit long, but to create the different caharacters it was a necessity. I was fortunate enough to see the film at the Toronto Premier and felt it was lighthearted and entertaining. Harman was very good in a difficult role and Priyanka was nothing less then very impressive. Thanks to Mr. Gowariker for taking a chance on a difficult endeavor. I enjoyed it and hope it gets enough exposure in the States to let us see some lighthearted creativity and just a fun movie.

This is a wonderful movie.Just beautiful !Priyanka should win an Oscar.Not kidding, I know magic when I see it. This movie puts to shame many Hollywwod movies that are all about violence ,***,
depravation,overhype and boring present/future technology. This MOVIE has a soul !! It’s alive !And Priyanka is just delightful to watch.What a range…What a cameleon…If the Jewish bosses in L.A.studios don’t notice then someone should bring it to their attention.
Harman is also excellent,and the entire supporting cast was absolutely well chosen,fit to work together.They have chemistry that radiates off the screen.Hail Bollywood ,the saviour of soulful entertainment !

The worst piece of **** I’ve come across lately after Dil BOle HAdippa!. Priyanka and Harman have no onscreen Charisma.I’m sure Harman got the finance done partially from his dad just to bag the leading role.Few songs are hummable,”sau janam” and “su che” only to be precise. The initial Mumbai locations used in the movie were gracefully captured and it seemed like even the cinematographer lost his interest in the second half. Script and the plot doesn’t go hand in hand and that’s were the flick loses its soul.Harman just plays himself and is as wooden as Abhishek Bacchan and Puneet Issar are.The other talented character actors are outrageously exploited as most of the screen time is utilized by Baweja Jr. Ashutosh tries his best to add some pace, but drops his weapons down due to lack of talent in the protagonists. Only recommended for the theater-sleepers!

I LIKED THE MOVIE.IT’S OK BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE FILM IS WAY TOO LONG.MUSIC IS GOOD.HURMAN DOES WELL.PRIYANKA HAS DELIVERED IT AGAIN.ASHUTOSH IS SUCCESFUL IN MAKING A GOOD FILM BUT CERTAINLY NOT HIS BEST.MY RATING ***.
The length was too much. But an interesting storyline. Nobody so far has thought of such a plot with zodiac signs. THE ENTIRE SHOW-STEALER IS PRIYANKA CHOPRA! Man, she is brilliant and has carried all the roles with so much of ease and brilliance. She definitely deserves a guiness. The songs are also lovely and has been beautifully composed. Few scenes could have been deleted though to make it crisp. Can watch this movie for Piggy and for the songs. I was struck with curiosity as to which sign would come next and how it would be. Hats off, Priyanka…!

The film was just not upto my expectations. The same Priyanka again and again and again made me wanna leave the film mid way but i sat through the torture. I was soo dissapointed in Ashotosh because after seeing JA, I was expecting something awesome and worth it. Hormone Bawaja should seriously retire, cuz films are just not his cup of tea. He lacked facial expression probably during the entire 3-3 & a half hours. Priyanka was good only as Mallika Desai and that dorky first girl. All the songs are pure trash except for “Sujhe Sujhe” and the title track. The end of the film was nonsensical and childish. There were also instance when the movie was slowing down and you could take minor naps till the scene would complete. The film on the whole was a complete flop, and the only reason to watch it atleast for once was cuz of Priyanka Chopra, who could have given her 100% which any blind person could say she obviously did’nt. The cast was nothing impressive and niether were the locations and who the hell thought of a tacky road side don to be given soo much air time. Ashutosh Ji needs to let go of his snooty booty attitude and make good films and probably only stick to epics like Jodha Akbar. My rating 2 out of 5. Or maybe -2 out of 5….. chaoooo

The Movie is not as bad as the critics are making it out to be, sure its long but i didnt really get that bored. Mostly its because priyanka chopra has given an AWESOME performance, i was always waiting to see how she will depict the next rashee and i really think she has given her best to each character in the film.
harman does grow on you as the film progresses, initially he was not doing that well. But priyanka’s characters are the ones you will really enjoy watching. A must watch if you are a fan of priyanka chopra.

cant believe hw gud priyanka woz hope she wins best actress. i really wanted to find out who harman went with. But out of 10 id give it a rating of 9 out of 10 could have been 10 if the ending woz betta. Dear readers, if you are considering watching whats your rashee i must warn you. THIS FILM IS 3.5 HOURS OF UTTER DRIVEL, BRAINLESS, MEANINGLESS, OFFENSIVE, HYPOCRITICAL, IMMORAL AND MOST OF ALL STUPID. Oh and boring too. and badly acted. terribly written. definitely sexist. all the women were just caricatures reduced to simplistic ideals clearly written by males. And the final choice of bride was so bizarre that it rendered all the previous stories meaningless. And the lead actor looked like a right twonk with his big hair.
3.5 hours i would have rather spent cleaning my worst enemy’s fetid diarrhea from his toilet bowl
