Delhi 6 Review
Movie Review: Delhi 6; Star Cast: Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Om Puri and Waheeda Rehman; Director: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra; Rating: *** – Is worth a watch.
Delhi 6 is a delightful musical run through the Hindu and Muslim cultures of Old Delhi as seen through the eyes of protagonist Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) who comes to India to fulfill the desire of his terminally ill Daadi (Waheeda Rehman) to spend the last days of her life in her hometown. As Roshan after a brief culture shock, tries to understand the complexities of relations that kept his people apart from each other as well as close to each other, he slowly gets attached to Bittu (Sonam Kapoor) and the chemistry grows, which is very convincingly directed using rich background music and believable day-to-day situations.
The first half, though appearing a little lengthy focuses on reverse-culture-shock jokes, lavishly reproduced Ram Leela, a visit to the Taj Mahal, and a cow giving birth in the street. It is in the second half that things take a more serious turn. Unwelcome traditions and smoldering religious hatred comes bubbling to the surface and erupt into a Do the Right Thing climax that takes everyone by surprise. Several characters and subplots weaved together to relate to the central plot of analyzing beliefs against rational thinking, with a touch of humor is quite entertaining but one has to endure the laborious and forced accent of Abhishek Bachchan throughout the movie. Although at several places, the movie seems predictable, Mehra succeeds in putting surprises well in time and balance. The climax gets dragged due to cameos and voiceovers. Although Roshan’s attempts to put belief and trust in people ahead of belief in customs and religion deserve a pat, what disappoints is Mehra getting preachy at many places. Rahman’s soulful music takes the film to a completely different level altogether.
Mehra and his cameraman Binod Pradhan have succeeded in capturing the buzz of Delhi city very well in every frame. Those living outside of India will find that connect with that feeling of wanting to be in both places. The song in the second half which juxtaposes Abhishek’s life in the US with the people and life in India is beautifully done as well. Hat’s off to the director and technical team there.
Abhishek has delivered one of his better performances but his American accent doesn’t really work. Sonam Kapoor doesn’t have much to do but except for the climax but she carries herself immensely well. Waheeda Rehman, Om Puri and Rishi Kapoor are simply outstanding. The huge ensemble cast comprising of acclaimed actors such as Raghubir Yadav, Pavan Malhotra, Supriya Pathak Shah, Deepak Dobriyal, Divya Dutta, Vijay Raaz, Tanvi Azmi and Atul Kulkarni do a wonderful job.
Just look at the diversity of topics addressed convincingly through brilliant performances and slick editing, you will realize why I say it’s worth a watch! -Sampurn

Worth watching…at least better than ******* billu which was a real torcher …the lifestyle of channdni chowk was the focal point in this movie..however abhi was awesomely good in this movie..cool acting..gals would surely continue to go gaga over him after watching this movie…he really made me cry at one point of time..abhi u rock dude…kaala bandar sahi me apne andar hai jhakh kar dekho hum sabme hi bhagwan hai …

yeh movie baki movie se kuch alag hai. is me Abhishek aur Sonam dono ne achcha kaam kiya hai par jise sonam pasand hai woh sonam ki hi laaaal karega aur sirf sonam ko hi dekhega. aur Abhishek ko gaali dega. Sonam dikhne me achchi hai lekin acting sikhna bahut zaruri hai. par actual me dekha jaye to Abhishek ne sonam se achcha kaam kiya hai. waise dekhne jaye to is film me itna kuch dum nahi hai.
i just saw Delhi-6 today. I was filled with plethora of anticipations when i first heard to its music a month back. Rehman’s tunes had done justice to the subject soared in this movie, but Rakesh Mehra just messed up its interpretation. For me, the movie is a BIG BORE. At intermission, i found myself yawning profoundly. The movie lost its lusture just after Abhishek Bachhan flaunted hi “american” accent. Sonam Kapoor was awesome, but wasted. Waheeda Ji has done justice, but at times, appeared monotonous(she reminded me of Dai Jaan of Lamhe). Other actors were stereotyped. Its no comparison to rang de basanti, or even aks. May be beacause Rakesh’s earlier flick raised the bar, or watever, but he was not honest in his attempt this time. The whole effort of filmmaking appeared baseless. The issue raised in Delhi-6 is thought provoking and sensitive, which required a more water-tight script. The movie is a failure in terms of direction, editing and individual performances. However, it is commendable in music and storyline. I’ll give it a single star
Rang De Basanti is a incomparable piece of filmmaking. I brought smiles, tears and even raised the adrenalin. Delhi-6 is a messed up venture, where Rakesh failed to interpret the issue. The Hindu-Muslim conflict served the base of this movie, and while it was at it, a message was also conveyed, that Indians need to search The Almighty in themselves. Quite appreciated. But this was a sensitive message, which required a better script and crisp performances. Abhishek’s stale American accent is still not justified. The movie suffers from a nausea, which might be credited to RDB’s great success. Rakesh failed drastically. A filmamker’s biggest defeat is wen its audience yawns. It is even profound if they begin yawning in the first 30 minutes of the movie only. There were no eye openers or surprise packages….(contd€)
Coming to direction, ROP failed in every frame. The whole movie looked a bundle of mistakes and mis-sync. Characters lacked orientation and chemistry between the leading pair vyed for attention.Music by Rehmaan is top notch, if only a few numbers are taken into account. Rehna Tu, Massakal and Genda Fool r hummable, rest r not even mentionable. Again, picturization of songs were without any sense or effort. The promos showed prior to the release of the movie attracted audience goers. But that was it. Nothing mentionable is there beyond it. Especially, if u take into account the Genda Phool song, u’ll notice poor lip syncing, which totally mars the essence of the music. Wen i first heard to Genda Phool, i was excited and cudnt wait to see its picturisation. I envisaged a typical north Indian marriage going on, where ladies are humming this wonderfully directed song. But alas! i got disappointed. The whole movie is a disappointment for cine-goers.
it is a ok movie…….. because of good work of rakesh om prakesh mehra and beautiful sonam kapoor did a teriffic acting………….but abhishek is vest in the film…

Pathetic movie.
Delhi-6 unfolds the story of Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan, a young American boy ) of Indian origin, who comes to India for the first time to drop his ailing grandmother (Waheeda Rehman). She wants to retire and spend the last leg of her life back home; dissolving into the soil she was born in. Hmmmm sound like Swades. Yes, it is a bit but there is twist in the tale in the formof Kala Bandar.
Performances are fine . Abhishek is Average and Sonam is promising. But the problem with this movie is that that it is a plotless movie.
Unlike RDB it seems to give a social message forcibly without much conviction and good execution. The pace of the movie is also slow. For which you seems to be kept waiting for something interesting to happen in the movie but it ends without fullfilling your expectations.
Delhi-6 is a terribly boring beginning an ok middle and a weak end .
Rahman music is the plus point but fail to move the movie smoothly.
Recomending the movie for Abishek Bachan fans only.

The movie is good if you look from a practical point of view but its upto your taste and expectations, its definately not a masala type of movie that someone would like to watch multiple times.

I would rather sleep on a bed of nails than have to watch that ridiculously stupid movie again. with all due respect to Mehra, i was thoroughly disappointed. what the heck possessed him to make this movie? as for abishek, he seemed like we was bored at home while ash was away shooting for pink panther so he decided to do delhi 6. I am not sorry for my harshness because i probably spent more money on the dvd than they did for the movie, and i paid three freakin’ bucks. this movie was supposed to be good, are you kidding me?

This movie is enjoyble only for those who have grown up in delhi6.. It is very close to the real life style and daily routine of delhi 6.
Abhishek has done good job . But Sonam acting was OK.
I cudnt bare watching the movie fully, the beginning was very very boring, watched only 40%. Whilst the picturization of the kool songs looked so lame. Everything seemed so disconnected with eachother.
There was no plot or idea determined from the start.
Sonam and Abhishek as always produced another flop film and wasted my time.

Oh my god…what a boring movie Delhi 6 is. I had looked forward to watching it because I happened to hear Masak Ali on Tv some time back. But thats about the only thing that is not boring bout delhi 6…the music by AR Rahman. Abhishek sucks. His acting which had showed some signs of improvement post Guru has gone back to being the same old **** it was. His potrayal of the character is shallow. There is no story line. I suppose the idea was to weave a bunch of subplots into the story which eventually transformed into a pattern at the end. But that didnt work becoz there werent any sub “Plots” the script was not a solid one and though everybody elses acting was either above average or up to the mark the chief protoganist was not potrayed convincingly by abhishek. There was absolutely no chemistry between the lead pair and sonam kapoor looked self conscious through out. I honeslty think anyone else…either shah rukh or hrithik or even shahid kapoor or saif ali khan wouldve done a better job. All in all its a very boring movie and with some patience you could sit and watch it till the end all the while hoping that some pattern would emerge which would make all the bull **** until then look worthwhile.
