Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi enjoys 2 week open run at Box office
It was going to be 3 weeks of back to back fun with Shah Rukh Khan [RNBDJ], Akshay Kumar [JUMBO] and Aamir Khan [GHAJINI] arriving on back to back weeks. However, JUMBO deciding to postpone it’s release date by a week means that it is going to be Akshay v/s Aamir clash this Christmas once again after TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and WELCOME last year.
What it also means is good news for RNBDJ which would now enjoy a clear two week open run. There is no film slated to release on 19th December now and that gives some extra breathing space for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer which anyways is not expected to take a ‘record breaking’ start (which was expected till 10 days back) in wake of Mumbai terror attack.
On the other hand GHAJINI has quite a few positives running in it’s favor. While the film would arrive on 25th December when it is expected that lives would get back to normalcy to an extent, no notable release for next 3 weeks means that Aamir Khan would have an open house awaiting him. The curse of first weekend of January continues to force film makers to avoid bringing their films due to which there is no film planned to arrive on 2nd January.
A week later, Nana Patekar starrer HORN OK PLEASSSSS is expected to arrive but the way it has been delayed month after month, there is hardly any assurance around it’s release. Moreover, even if it does, it hardly is a competition. It’s only on 16th January that a free run for GHAJINI would be interrupted and the man responsible for that would be Akshay Kumar who has his biggie CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA all set for a 16th January release.
However, CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA won’t quite have an open house ahead with Emraan Hashmi & Kangana starrer RAAZ - THE MYSTERY CONTINUES arriving on 23rd January with Farhan Akhtar too planning to bring on LUCK BY CHANCE on the same day.
Well, it is going to be busy days ahead for Bollywood beginning next weekend! - Joginder Tuteja (SAMPURN)

We went and saw Rab ne banadi jodi yesterday. As I had already imagined, this had lot of similarities with one of my stories. This is one of the two stories that I had sent to Mirchi movies in May this year. Somehow I feel that concepts of my story have been lifted. I know there is no direct link between Mirchi movies and Yash Raj films. But there is every possibility of someone at the MML office selling off the story to someone at YRF for some small amount. The striking similarities:
1. Dance reality show vs Dance competition
2. Husband trying to prove that he loves his wife not by words but by deeds
3. Call centre employee vs Electricity company employee
4. “Thank you for calling Nissan, my name is Lijo….” vs “Punjab Power, lighting up your lives. This is Surinder Sahni”
5. Lijo having an infatuation before marriage vs Taani having a lover who dies before marriage
The only thing in addition to my story is Surinder playing the guise of Raj to impress his wife. And this is the only part that is not so digestable. How can one just shave off his moustache and gel his hair and become a person that even his own wife cannot make out? I know in countries like the US we could sue both YRF and MML on the basis of doubt and even the fees of the lawyers would have been on a commission basis. I don’t think that could be possible here. But if there are any lawyers who would like to take up this case(purely on commission basis, no fees), I am ready to give all proofs of the story being my original work, proof that I had courired it to MML office.

What do we expect from a movie? Entertainment. But if that comes with any other added value then that’s well and good. To those of you, so called ‘die hard fans’ whatever your actor (super hero, self claimed King, Mr. Perfectionist, whatsoever) does is liked by you. But you just can’t do the unbiased and objective commentary.
RNBDJ is a hit and Ghajini is also a hit. That means people have come out, watched the movies and liked them. Again that is the movies have succeeded in entertaining the population. Which again means that the movies are good. However, if we are to compare the two movies then I would rather say GHAJINI transcends the Bollywood boundaries as far as dedication of the actors are concerned. RNBDJ comes as an ordinary flick, though with sublime acting skills by the lead actors, but does not qualify to salvage the savour offered by GHAJINI. GHAJINI reflects the unmatched consistency and discipline of an actor, who was otherwise, never thought of performing such a character. But when he does come out playing the character against all odds, he gathers loads and loads of admiration and definitely accolades that will still not suffice the need to bring in such sheer dedication into film-making and acting. I think this attempt by Aamir, no hard feeling to SRK, is a milestone which should not be contained but should be extended to further height and we viewers can relish the charm of watching excellent and breath-taking movie as has been GHAJINI to me.
People seem to be too engrossed in imposing their preconceived ideas and their choice of actors. If we don’t learn to respect the dedication and discipline that an actor brings into film-making then we cannot ensure good films for our own future generation. Its not about Amir building his body, its about what it takes for an actor to go through to do a character according to the script of the movie. Amir bags five out of five for bringing in that dedication, industry and commitment in to commercial hindi movie. He deserves a ROYAL SALUTE and will make history. Whereas, if SRK continues to play the roles he has gotten into then he is going to go down in the history like the downhill that came for Rajesh Khanna (I love Rajesh Khanna more than any of his contemporary actors). So SRK wake up, look what’s going around and grow (learn). Being No1 or King takes the Bollywood to nowhere. Create history, inspire people, stop claiming King (symbol of dictatorship) and concentrate in your acting. If you can fulfill them then you can make your fans delighted rather than blinding them in their talk and regreting when they go to bed. Its not about Amir, its about the performance he has given. A complete awakening in terms of Bollywood film-making which deserves to be acknowledged and carried over from here on.
Those who are talking about realistic and unrealistic script, you need to first decide before entering inside a theatre whether you are going for entertainment or a documentary of living life-style or true story. The other thing is, how many Hollywood movies that are released every year have the brace of reality to an average viewer? Lets try to go beyond our imagination. Don’t forget ‘IMAGINATION IS THE FATHER OF ALL CREATION’.
To add one more point;
When the film-maker has already pronounced in public that the film is a remake why do we have to make of fuss of it. Its a copy, let the viewer choose if they want to watch it and like it. A film cannot be bad only because of its adaptation from another film. GHAJINI is a genuine adaptation, so no more questions about it? Pratice objectivity… that will give room for improvement.
