Movie Review: Ghajini - 2nd Review
Review: Ghajini; Star Cast: Aamir Khan, introducing Asin, Jiah Ali Khan and Pradeep Rawat; Director: A.R. Murugadoss; Rating: 3.5 out of 5* - Not meant for the faint hearted
Sanjay Singhania (Aamir) after being hit on head suffers from a short term memory loss. He cannot recollect anything beyond 15 minutes. He has various phone numbers and names tattooed on his body all hinting at one thing, seek revenge for the murder of his girlfriend, Kalpana (Asin). The only clue he has is the name that he remembers his dying girlfriend uttered in his ears - Ghajini. What obstacles Sanjay encounters in his hunt for Ghajini forms the rest of the film.
The film is a perfect masala film, a revenge thriller, a genre which was very popular in the 80s. But what sets the film apart from a typical pot boiler is the way the screenplay has been structured, oscillating between flashbacks and present time. There is also a good balance of romance, suspense, action and comedy. Plus the biggest asset – Aamir Khan! The story has two major flashbacks, but unlike many films where flashbacks do nothing for the film itself, this one actually aids in building the character and adding intensity to them. Having seen Sanjay’s past life, you see reason for his current actions. The film at no point justifies the actions but it does give you reason to go with the flow.
Murugados’s direction is terrific and the master story teller that he is, he just doesn’t give the audience a moment to think even in 180 minutes running time film. Technically it definitely stands amongst the best films of 2008. Superb editing (Anthony), excellent camerawork (Ravi K Chandran) and amazing sound design (Resul) take the film to an altogether different level. The action by Peter Hains and Stunt Shiva keeps you on the edge of your seat. But some action sequences have turned out a bit too gory and not meant for the faint hearted. But with Aamir giving his everything all out in them they end up being a treat to watch. A.R. Rahman’s melodies are a treat to watch onscreen having been excellently picturised. Also, none of the songs hamper the proceedings.
Amongst the sequences that stand out are Aamir’s first encounter with Asin, Aamir visiting Asin’s boss’s party, Aamir’s outburst in the hospital, Asin’s murder sequence and of course the action packed climax where Aamir for a moment forgets what he is fighting for when he comes face to face with the villain!
In an author backed role, Aamir has outperformed himself, making us fall short of words in his praise. He is not only utterly convincing as a killing machine but he is extremely loveable in the romantic comedy sequences with Asin. South starlet Asin in her Bollywood debut leaves a lasting impression. Jiah though fits the part somehow pales in comparison to Asin. Her accented Hindi irritates. Pradeep Rawat brings back to Bollywood, the true villain that was missing since long time. He is menacingly good.
Ghajini does live up to the hype it has generated and is a must watch for Aamir Khan fans and also for debutante Asin and the latest addition to talented filmmakers of Bollywood, director A.R. Murugadoss.

It is a totally **** movie. I saw the yesterday’s premier show and think that it is a total waste of money. I don’t know why Amir Khan is called perfectionist, the movie has so much of technical flaws as an example. Amir is MD of large telecom co with short memory, he is taken over by police who doesn’t know who is the person. Total **** and so irritating.
The subject is nevertheless good but dear guys (script writers, directors) why dont you put little more thought in presenting the subject. What was the need for you to show the two female leads as behaving extremely stupid in tough situations.The college student had such good role to play but her act and character was horrendous.
Overall i will not recommend anyone to watch this movie.
If you dont like my review, By next week you will agree when there is real public opinion in press.

I saw the movie in NJ and the movie is a total waste of time and money. I cannot believe that Aamir can do a movie like that. This movie is even bad than Mela, the movie which Aamir did with his brother.

Reading some of the comments here I find it silly that people still believe that critics are paid by actors to write favourable reviews. Well there may be some rotten eggs in the trade but this onez written in a fair way.

Ghajini is an ultimate movie, it’s so intense that all the audience are totally involved for the full time. Really AAMIR is the best! He has acted so well that i dont have words to appreciate him. Asin is also good. Three cheers for Ghajini-Hip-Hip Hurray ————-.

RNBDJ (or w/e), i havent even watched that girly ****. its just nonsense. people without any taste, class or choice watch that ****. of course, everyone loves entertainment, but its a **** movie which is nothing new. but ghajini is VERY DIFFERENT. true, ALL hindi movies are just stupid, so dont expect ghajini to be perfect, there are many flaws, but easily overlooked and not significant. like for instance, the police officer like a daredevil pursues a hardcore murderer all on his own without police force, police capture him and let him go easy, they dont recognize he is the tycoon, and when they do, they let him just go? all in all, you’ve seen worse from other hindi movies which are pure dumbass.
the movie is still good, and RNBDJ is all romance and comedy and songs, GUESS WHAT, ghajini DESPITE being an action film scores 5/5 for romance and songs 5/5, what indian audiences die for. so ghajini is STILL BETTER ANY DAY, ANY TIME FOR A MASSALA FILM. the action is not so well dealt with, while its good, its nothing special compared to even the few awesome action sequences in mission kashmir. no matrix action is sad!! action gets 3/5. not so good, but is still not that bad.
plus aamir is presented more like a psycho, and the movies background can be grim. the background is not so good (although not desperately bad), but could have been a thousand times better. aamir khan has the best action physique in the whole industry and the action sequences are not BS sunny style or akshay kumar style stupid, or srk who cant even fight. even hrithik looked awful against the main villain in JA. aamir, is very convincing with his physique and action. really well done, just not matrix style.
storyline should have been better for the action bit, which is still not that bad, just could have been better.
its still watchable a couple of times for the brilliant love story and songs, and the film is not that bad. aamir needs to cut down on some overacting as well for action sequences, and making that scary face.
OVERALL BEST MOVIE EVER MADE IN INDIA. indian films are just ****, and ghajini is a brave step forward. so its laudable that delivers, just not as well as 4.5/5 but more 3.5/5 overall.

Iam neither SRK Fan nor Amir Khan Fan. But just watched Ghajini which is a good movie. Credit should be given to Amir Khan, Asin and Director. It is worth watching atleast once. Yes,there were few unrealistic, logic missing. But on the whole, it is a great movie for shear entertainment. If you pay 150 bucks and want to get 3 hour entertainment with good songs, picturalization, acting, presentation without boring, this is the movie to watch. An average Indian wants to get some entertainment that’s why he is coming to movies. It is worth speding your money watching ghajini with your friends (girl friends as well), family, relative because it will be liked by all people.
I put a humble request not to compare SRK or Amir Khan because both of them are very good in thier own respect. Both SRK and Amir Khan had provided great, good movies over the years. Now, just watch the movie and look at it as a common man. Please don’t put your comments just because you don’t like Amir or because you are a SRK Fan.
Just to add, I have seen the Tamil version of this movie in which Surya had acted really well. Infact, he had done much better than Amir. So, please watch the movie and put your comments from netural view.

I do agree that Surya performed excellently in tamil version. I personally like Surya as he is a cute, charm, good looking, nice actor as well
Anyone who had seen tamil Ghajini will totally agree that Surya did a great job. Of course, he is a great actor in tamil industry. He has a juge chunk of female fans in TN.Having said that, I have watched Hindi Ghajini as well. It is great. Some of the mistakes which they did in tamil had been removed in Hindi. Morover, tamil Ghajini songs were great, awesome. But Hindi Ghajini songs were not so great but good. Generally, AR Rahman songs takes time to be catching. May be after hearing it again and again, songs might be liked by all.
But one thing for sure…. Ghajini will be big hit since it is already block bluster hit in Tamil. Moreover, the same movie was dubbed in Telugu which was again a block bluster hit in Telugu as well. This itself is a clear indication that Surya performance was so great that even Telugu people too liked him…..
Again, no need to compare SRK, Amir and Surya. All have exceptional talents. But if you want me to pick among all these three, I could go with Surya since he is great actor in tamil….
Who is this actor Surya? I haven’t heard about him? Why all people are praising him? I haven’t seen Tamil Ghajini… But Hindi Ghanini is awesome…. great…. phenominal…. perfect commerical entertainment… worth watching once….. Amir and Asin acting were great…. No need to compare SRK, Amir nor Surya. All are great actors…..Hats off to Ghahini Team… Well done…..
Ghazini is a superb technical , brilliantly acted film film following a different yet thrilling mode of story telling - but with some flaws in the story ( kalapana dosent bother to know anything about sachin , the ‘gift of the magi’ concept about selling the ambassador car and the mistaken identity based love are 2 cliche , after committing so many murders sanjay is caught and not tried - the police is shown to be 2 naive ,coincidences happen 2 often and the story is written to justify somewhat gory violence ). Amir Khan has delivered the performance of his life , Asin looks beautiful and acts effervecently , Pradip Rawat ( ghazini ) acts superbly BUT Zia Khan ( a perfect mismatch ) is horrible in her accented Hindi . The songs are appropriately
placed in the story , melodious and picturised beautifully .
The direction and other technical jobs are done masterfully.
AMIR VS SRK :
SRK was seen to be a good actor in the TV serials Fauji and Circus , but his film acting is pathetic most of the time . He looks good only in those somewhat eccentric and energetic characters ( Raju baan gaya gentleman , Yess Boss , Badshah etc. ) and worser than worse in emotional and serious characters . He is no doubt a good showman but can never be
construed to be a good actor .
Amir has slowly developed into an actor’s actor.

I finally saw Ghajini yesterday. I didnt really like the movie, mainly because of the violence. I dont think Asin is suited for Hindi movies. She has that typical south indian habit of overacting and over emoting which is so typical of south Indian movies

Ghajini is an entertaining movie aimed at the B & C centers (80’s style dishum-dishum, dream sequences, romance ) as well as the multiplexes (Aamir Khan with the thinking-actor tag is the main protagonist, Memento rip-off short term memory loss is an interesting concept to watch out for). That itself is an achievement I guess in today’s times where universal hits are rare. Aamir Khan is a good actor but he us not ‘great’ as the hype asks us to believe. His 40 plus age status is there for all to see - the tired lines on a chubby face - nothing wrong with that except that he the character is supposed to be 30 plus. Asin makes an impressive debut thanks to an author backed role and an energetic performance. Aamir-Asin vibes are strictly not passionate, the way Aamir looks at her protectively, she could be his favorite student or pampered niece! Jiah Khan has the worst role in the movie, she is there to add to the mess and take the story forward to suit the director’s whims.

I saw ghajini. Aamir acted well but when compare aamir with surya in tamil ghajini, surya is far better than aamir in acting. Anyhow aamir rocks in bollywood.

For god sake….pl don’t compare Surya with Amir …friends try to understand one thing, there is a difference between STAR and a ACTOR, Amir is a Star, Surya is a Actor, Surya is for better then Amir in acting. Nobody can beat Surya in acting except one person…..(KAMAL)
Aamir khan is quality actor. His ating is so wonderfull ghajini business is on one side and SRK full career film business is on another side is equal. srk is good actor but Aamir is really king khan. I love Aamir khan.

I really like this film. My favourite song is Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gayi. Very well picturised. The film is a superbig hit. It is highly appreciated in Mauritius.
