Phoonk Review
Movie: Phoonk; Cast: Sudeep, Amruta Khanvilkar, Ahsaas Channa, Kenny Desai, Ashwini Kalsekar and Ganesh Yadav; Director: Ram Gopal Varma; Rating: ** 1/2
Phook reminded me of a hilarious episode of decade old Jaspal Bhatti's comedy show Ulta Pulta, aired on our National channel, where the comedian tries to make a thriller and is surprised to win an award for Best Comedy Film for the same flick. At least you can say this for the first half of Phook where instead of getting scared one would laugh his/her heart out. After seeing the promotions of Rs. 5 lacs prize money for the person watching this flick alone, this wasn't been expected from a proven director like Ram Gopal Varma.
The story of the movie revolves around Rajeev, a successful Construction Engineer with loving wife, and two children aged 10 and 8. Rajeev is an atheist to the core. He scoffs at God and even more at people who believed in the dark forces till one day when an evil is let loose in his happy home threatening to destroy his family and shake up the very foundations of his convictions and belief systems.
The movie starts with some funny camera angles and annoying music and that keeps repeating in the whole first half. Unnecessary sound effects and weird close up shots are simply unnecessary. Known to create an unexpected shock for the viewers by use of his creative camera angles, Ramu has failed to live up to his expectations this time around. In a desperate attempt to create horror, RGV has added some unnecessary horrific scenes in the movie.
But the same couldn't be said for the second half of the film which seems to be pretty impressive, leaving few things aside. It surely makes people quietly sit at the edge of their seats. The scenes are so powerful that no one in the audience dared to utter a single word.
On the acting front, the little kid Ahsaas Channa is pretty impressive. She is really brilliant in the 2nd half. The others have also given a good performance leaving apart Ashwini Kalsekar, who is really irritating in the first half. Her laughter is more like someone screaming loudly in your ears and trying to kill you with that.
Background music is surprisingly good while the camera work would really have been much better. After all it plays a very important role in the making of a horror flick. I really wish first half was as good as second one. It looked like first half was directed by some sub standard director while the second half was handled by RGV himself. With many young and talented directors making their debut in Bollywood, Ramu really needs to deliver some good stuff soon, if we want to enhance his career in Bollywood.
To sum it up; the movie was not so bad not so good, but it could have been made really well if they had taken care of the first half. I mean, if you can't add fear in the mind of people then at least don't make them laugh, it's supposed to be a horror movie.

What a movie! just utter bullshit! I guess its a time and money wasting material. So guys its not a horror still but a hell of a movie.
Thats the only movie which I liked after the very brilliant “Johnny gaddar”…If I would Ever wear a hat, it would be off to RGV for making this damn good movie.

make it horror film like VIRANA
scared one in my whole life. My eyes saw it ….. more than “Bhoot”. the next side of darkness………describes ‘PHOONK’
this is S.K.
the soul is screamy. dare to see or just close your eyes. RGV’s PHOONK Mantra will take you to the dark dimension of evils.
alone to watch it or watch it to be alone….

Baht yarrana lagta hai…eee… hak thuuu……..

Keep Going RAMU, Indian cinema needs creative people like you. You have proved it again. Other wise we Indians can never come out of fantasy world of love stories and keep watching the same repeat stories all life. Well done!! Brilliant. Dare to be different.

its not a horror movie but ******* comedy……….
***! ***! ***!
u *** off! ramu
super ghosty
Just watched it. The whole theatre was laughing at the ‘Scary’ scenes. Really enjoyed but a waste of money.
i thought i’m gonna pee and **** on the screen and on ramu’s face…
movie is very nice …those peoples r *** holes who thinks that movie is **** ..a very creative movie and the topic BLACK MAGIC is good .people always want to find negative things in movies but they really don’t know what they want my rating 5 out of 5.
The best movie I have ever seen. Superb!!!! Hats off to Ramu.
I feel the movie was below many of our expectations, but it definately does get creepy…. brilliant acting!! Hats off to Ahsaas Channa and especially Ashvini Kalsekar, very few could have brought the effect that she got in the movie. I loved the cast. The sound effects are very creative and different. I totally think RGV should stick to his genre..i.e HORROR. people more or else did enjoy the movie and found it full on Time Pass , which is important equally. It does grab your attention.
It gets monotonous with the way some scenes have been shot!! MY rating as a horror movie it would be 2 and half.. coz its not VVery scary just creepy. but when it comes to acting, cast and sound effects,PLUS the concept…4 OUT of 5.
movie is very good
Films is really well made…
and hey guys whenever one laufs at such scary moments doesnt mean he is finding it funny…
it directly means he has got scared and is laufing to express it…coz u aint gonna yell!

mat banaooooo aise movies……..
Wasn’t this supposed to be a horror movie? I watched the movie today, its outright nonsense. Gime me some popkorm and a glass of cola and I would watch the movie alone in an island without a zilch of fear. Its nonsense at its best.
Dis was da most sukkiest movi iv evr seennn i saw dis in da halll wid ma sis i am 14 n ma sis is 8 nnn i didnt even get scared 1cccc
I think people should some how make this guy stop making movies at least for some time.
The reviews were right. RGV was wrong. Some publicity stunts got the people into the theaters. Script is stupid and horror scenes are funny.
Bakwaas Movie… Hopeless movie… Waste of time and money
thank ramuji…
the movie ws really nice nd specially tht seen where the girl just raise up till theeiling,,nd at the end whn the viliion screams..
5 lakh for watching Phoonk…anyone can do it….he should have offered the same scheme for RGV ki AAG….now i know of a lotta people who wouldnt even watch it if someone gave them 500 crores…!!!
Wanna laugh? See Phoonk. Not expected from Ramu. I’m throughly disappointed.
Phoonk!!! RGV has made a laughing stock
That lady who played the role of the black witch…has probably ruined her career…she has overacted so much….no one will take her for for a major role.
Where is my Aspirin ….. Where is my damn Aspirin !!!!
Hoplessly Hopeless is PHOONK.
What is this BULLSHIT….. Is RGV gone INSANE or something … well … well … I got it guys ! RAMU actually needs a PHOONK now ….. else he will keep spilling my brains out !!!!
guyz after cheking out review i am thinking not to go for this movie. i am crazy for horror movies but after getting reviws of u all it will be a complete nonsense going for this movie.
this is for all those people who doesn’t believe in God & Black Magic. Don’t make fun on Black Magic. It’s True. One dialogue in the movie is very true - when you believe in Medicine then you have to believe in God. “Kuch Baaton Ke Jawab nahi Hote”. In short this is amazing movie. Must WATCH.
How to stop RGV making films? Who are those producers ?
is there anyway ram gopal verman can be stopped from making movies. Darna mana hai, darna zaroori hai and then few in between and now phoonk. It is an insult to watch his movies. Some strange statue in room cats sitting in corner, crows on trees.Gosh. Was there a reward for watching this movie in theater alone? i bet cos i cant watch this movie for 5 min. God help us and let censor board and film industry impose a ban on him…
This is for ramu sir i have a wonderful script with me.Iam sure that the thoughts i processed will really scare the ones who mummer laugh and comment espeacially when there is a time to be scared IN THE THEATRE HALL.
Iam serious iam a big fan of u ramuji…You are amazing
“NENU MEE CINEMALANNI CHOOSANU.RATRI,DEIYAM,BHOOT ELANTI CINEMALU MALLI MALLI TEEYALI”.
I HAVE REALLY EXPERIENCED SPOOKYNESS IN REAL LIFE,I PROCESSED THE SAME TO A VERY SCARY EPIC.IAM SERIOUS……..
RAMU JI IS THE BEST WHEN IT COMES TO MAKE HORROR FLICKS.
pHOONK COULD HAVE BEEN MADE BETTER. MY EXPECTATIONS WERE HIGH.
TO MY KNOWLEDGE HORROR FILMS SHOULD HAVE BLOOD SHED SILENT MUSIC BACKROUND,AND SCARY SOUNDS OF AIR,WATER,FIRE,SHEER DARKNESS LONELY PLACES AND VERY FEW CHARACTERS KNOWN TO US.
GIVE ME A CHANCE I CAN NARRATE REAL INCIDENTS PENNED TO SCREEN IT.
IAM SERIOUS…..
POSSESION BY THE DEAD SPIRIT, IS COMMON AND OLD.
THE REAL THING IS “THE SATUN AGAIST GOD” PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE IN SATUN THAN GOD SUCH A STORY CAN REALLY GET THE ***** IN MOUTH. AND IAM SURE THERE WILL BE NO ONE IN A FULL HOUSE TO EVEN WITNESS THE LAST CLIMAX (MAY BE FEW). ITS THE FACT.
it is not a great movie, second half is handled well by Ramu, sudeep is great
go & watch 1920 and learn smething …..!
Ramu Uncle!Ramu Uncle! youre film was simply Superb!don’t mind about the others negative comment. I am with you. i m ur fan , RAmu Uncle!i will pray for you, to my fav. god Sairam to bless you.

best not worst…….
take another chance and prove indian cinema….
then bet yurself
take another scary movie…..
ram ur always highlight….
we want a picture like vaasthu shastra
I watched the movie. I think itis some kind of fairy tale stuff but some scenes make a really powerful impact on your mind.
What else can be expected from North Indians, other than this kind of brainless rubbish?
i watch 71minutes off it yhhh
