Shruti Ulfat and Jaya Bhattacharya in Jai Maa Durga
The on going track of Jai Maa Durga on STAR Plus introduces two new characters, Jagdamba and Kaali who are the avtaars of Maa Durga. The role of Jagdamba is played by well known TV actress Shruti Ulfat while Kaali’s role is essayed by the versatile Jaya Bhattacharya.
In real life, both the actresses are huge Matabhakts. Jaya Being a Bengali is a follower of Maa Kaali and for her essaying the role was another way of getting close to her God. Shruti is seen on TV after a long time and was perfect for the role of Jagdamba, the serene Goddess.
Both the actresses have essayed these powerful roles with great aplomb. They had to do many fight sequences with the asurs (demons) and they managed to do it themselves without any duplicates, this despite their heavy costumes and chunky weapons. Shruti was the one buckling under the pressure (literally!) because of her heavy sari, jewelry and a 2 Kg crown custom made for her! While Jaya was in the complete Kaali look with long black hair, dark makeup, skull mala around her neck etc.
