Aishwarya Majumdar wins ‘Chhote Ustad’

Amitabh at Amul Voice of IndiaAmitabh Bachchan at voice of indiaRadhika Bhirani: Aishwarya Majumdar, 13, was thrilled to be crowned “Amul Star Voice of India Chhote Ustad” by Amitabh Bachchan — and loved it when the superstar referred to her as “my bahu” (daughter-in-law).

“I felt very nice when Amitabhji referred to me that way and winning the competition made me very happy,” Aishwarya told IANS by phone from Mumbai.

The Ahmedabad-based girl, fondly referred to as ‘Style Ben Aishwarya’ for her high style quotient on the talent show, triumphed over 14-year-old Anvesha Dattagupta from Kolkata.

But Aishwarya, a Class 8 student of Ahmedabad’s Delhi Public School, feels the competition on the show was not very tough.

“Nobody other than Anvesha Dattagupta was worth competing with on the show,” she said.

When the results were announced April 5, Anvesha maintained a smiling demeanour and didn’t shed a single tear. Would Aishwarya have cried if Anvesha had triumphed over her?

The teenager’s reply is a firm “no”.

She said she wouldn’t have cried at all because her motive is to become a playback singer and that “Chhote Ustad” had helped her exhibit her singing prowess across the world.

“Even if I hadn’t won the competition, I would have still become a playback singer,” she replied confidently.

Aishwarya’s win has got her a trophy, an insurance policy worth Rs.500,000, a prize money of Rs.1,000,000 from STAR Plus as well as a Rs.10 million contract with Big Music.

Bollywood singer Abhijit Bhattacharya made a noble gesture and awarded to both Aishwarya and Anvesha a cheque of Rs.51,000 each.

Asked what she would do with so much money, Aishwarya said: “I don’t know. Right now my parents will deal with it and I will just give a party to my friends who have been so supportive all the time.”

Aishwarya is extremely excited about the singing offer by composer Pritam Chakarborty, who was also a judge on the show.

“I am so thankful to Pritamda to give me the chance to sing for one of Bollywood’s leading ladies, who might happen to be Kareena (Kapoor),” she gushed.

Aishwarya has already cut a music album with Times Music. “The album has Gujarati devotional songs in it,” she told IANS.

Aishwarya, who proved to be a versatile livewire performer on stage, has inherited her singing skills from her parents and grandmother. She began taking classical vocal lessons at the age of six.

She said: “I learnt classical singing from my guru - Shri Aniket Khandekar - and I used to sing Bollywood songs with my father.”

Other than singing, Aishwarya loves reading, dancing and swimming, she said.
