The ‘Gladrags Mrs India’ contest, the only beauty pageant for married women in the country, will be held in Mumbai on December 15.

Prominent among the 22 finalists is Teejay Sidhu, an ex-Channel V VJ.

Addressing a press conference here, Mrs Maureen Wadia, President, Gladrags Beauty Pageants, said this year’s contest will see participation of a unique assortment of women from various walks of life - some homemakers and others from professional backgrounds such as media, marketing, actors and business women hailing from all parts of the country as well as the US and the UK.

The finalists have come a long way since the first selection round. A month-long rigorous training schedule involving various aspects such as lessons in grace, etiquette, communication skills, nutrition, diet, physical training, dance, health and make up have been imbibed by the contestants as tools to achieve what they have victory at the finale.

The winners will represent India at Mrs Globe in Las Vegas and Mrs Universe in Bulgaria where there will be participants from 75 countries.

Mrs Wadia said Mrs India contest has come a long way from a time when entering a beauty contest was a taboo for women, to present day married women who are keen to develop an identity for themselves.

”I believe that it is not always about winning, but also stepping out and participating, which speaks volumes of the determination and vision married women hold for themselves today,’’she added.
