Another film on Daniel Pearl by Indian producer
(No Ratings Yet)After British filmmaker Michael Winterbottom’s “A Mighty Heart”, London-based Indian producer J. Murli Manohar pays a tribute to Wall Street Journal’s slain journalist Daniel Pearl in his film “Infinite Justice”.
“The film is our tribute to the gutsy journalist. It’s very important for today’s cinema to connect contemporary topics with the audience. That’s what we’ve done in ‘Provoked’ and now ‘Infinite Justice’,” Manohar told IANS.
Till recently the easy-going producer from the south dabbled in fantasia such as “Jeans” and “Ramji Londonwale”. But now he is making reality-based films. After making “Provoked”, a real-life wife-battering tale with Aishwarya Rai, Manohar has completed “Infinite Justice”.
Pearl was abducted in 2002 from Karachi while researching on terrorism. The incident shook the West and other countries. Since his death the late journalist has become a kind of legend.
Pakistani director Jamil Dehlavi, who made “Immaculate Conception” with Shabana Azmi, directs “Infinite Justice”.
Dehlavi’s last film was “Jinnah” on the life of Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, with Christopher Lee in the title role and Indian actor Shashi Kapoor as the narrator.
“Infinite Justice”, written by Faroukh Dhondy, will be released early next year.
Back home, Manohar has no plans of producing another Hindi film after the Madhavan-starrer “Ramji Londonwale”.
“It’s a language I’m not very comfortable with,” he says.
