Eklavya’s print already sent: Chopra
Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, whose movie ‘Eklavya - The Royal Guard’ starring Amitabh Bachchan has been selected by the Film Federation of India (FFI) to represent India at the ensuing 80th Annual Academy Awards and has been accused of influencing the FFI selection jury, today said he had already sent the print of his film to the United States.
Reacting to the hearing of the Bombay High Court on a writ petition filed by Bhavna Talwar of WSG Films, which produced Pankaj Kapur-starrer ‘Dharm’, Mr Chopra said the High Court has not issued any restraining order/stay or injunction in the matter.
”The case will be heard on October ten and I will abide by the court’s order,” he said.
A division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice D Y Chandrachud heard the matter on selection of ‘Eklavya - The Royal Guard’ today, and observed that there was bias in the selection of the film. It directed the FFI to respond before October ten.
In her writ petition, Ms Talwar has charged that the entire selection process was vitiated on account of strong affiliation of certain members of the committee with ‘Eklavya’ producer director Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
The selection was based on entries received by the FFI.
Accordingly, the High Court was informed that based upon the selection and communication from the FFI in conformity with the guidelines of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, USA the entry was sent on September 26 and the print of ‘Eklavya - The Royal Guard’ on September 28 prior to the receipt of the notice of the hearing of the matter so as to reach the Academy within the stipulated time limit of October one, he added.
