The age of television serials abounding in saas-bahu sagas or business rivalries’ seems to be passé! The family politics on the small screen is slowly and steadily, paving way for shows mirroring the dreams and aspirations of the commonman across the country.

After ‘Meri Awaz Ko Mil Gayi Roshni’ and ‘Sangam’ on Star Plus, Sony Entertainment is coming up with ‘Amber Dhara’, another show relating to the day-to-day struggle for survival of the commonman especially the middle class.

To be aired on Sony Entertainment Channel from September 24, at 2100 hrs, ‘Amber Dhara’ is a heartwarming story about conjoined twins whose boundless zest for life and a never-say-die spirit make them adorable.

The story is based on two sisters, Amber and Dhara, who are conjoined twins with their own dreams, ambitions, and aspirations.

Brought up in the small hill station town of Panchgani, Amber and Dhara grow up as two distinct personalities. While Amber is gutsy and brave, Dhara is more realistic and takes her own time in making decisions. A unique entity with two bodies, two minds and two hearts, yet conjoined for life.

”The programme deals with the day-to-day trials and tribulations faced by Amber and Dhara in course of their journey of life and their fight to gain dignity in their own unique conditions,” Executive Vice President and business head of SET Albert Almeida said at a press meet to announce the upcoming serial earlier this week.

Mr Almeida said after ‘Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin’ which mirrored the dreams and aspirations of the middle class through the story of an ordinary looking girl to establish a niche for herself in the glamour world, ‘Amber Dhara’ was another story which marked a refreshing change from the kinds of soaps being currently aired on Indian television today.

”We have always come up with concepts that are a refreshing change on the Indian television. ‘Amber Dhara’ is yet another clutter breaking effort that reinforces our belief of delivering differentiated, progressive and unique storylines. Infact, we strongly believe that the serial will change the way people watch television,” Almeida said.

Addressing the press meet, the CEO of Sony Entertainment Television Kunal Dasgupta said, ”it has always been our endeavour to present television viewers stories different from the kind of stuff being aired on most channels today. We were the first to come up with a refreshing story like ‘Jassi jaisi Koi Nahin’, dealing with the concept of the ”triumph of the underdog” which the audience truly appreciated.

”I hope that ‘Amber Dhara’ will evoke a similar response from the TV viewers,” he said. Producers Sidharth Tewary and Vikas Seth, who make their debut on television with ‘Amber Dhara’ said, ”The idea of ‘conjoined twins’ was conceived and developed into a storyline, after studying several real cases, which we felt would break the current generic ’saas bahu’ trend on television,” they said.

Claiming that the show eschewed the melodrama that characterised most shows of the ’saas bahu’ genre on TV, the producers said,”it is a story that reflects the dreams and aspirations of the commonman; a story that would inspire people because of the lovable and relatable characters who, with their indomitable spirit, will warm hearts and homes.” ‘Amber Dhara’ has in its cast veteran TV and film actor Paintal, Mona Ambegaonkar and Shweta Gulati in key roles. The roles of Amber and Dhara are being essayed by newcomers.
