Premiere of latest films on the internet, either simultaneously with their release in cinema halls or shortly after their theatrical release, seems to be fast becoming a vogue in Bollywood! After Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Vivah’, Milan Luthria’s ‘Hattrick’, Anurag Basu’s ‘Life In a Metro’ and Sagar Bellary’s ‘Bheja Fry’, the colourised version of the 50s classic ‘Naya Daur’ has been released on the internet, close on heels of its theatrical release across the country last month.

Beginning September 14, the 1957 classic, featuring in the cast Bollywood thespian Dilip Kumar, yesteryears’ dancing star Vyjayantimala, Ajit and Jeevan, has become available online at the Internet portal ‘Rajshri.com’, which heralded the trend of premiering premium Bollywood movies online when it became the first portal in the world to release ‘Vivah’ simultaneously with the film’s theatrical release.

”Rajshri.com is proud to host the Internet premiere of legendary filmmaker B.R. Chopra’s 1957 classic ‘Naya Daur’ in its colourized and digitally re-mastered avatar,’’says Rajshri Media managing director Rajjat Barjatya.

Originally released in 1957, ‘Naya Daur’, directed by legendary filmmaker B.R. Chopra, celebrates the jubilation of the undying human spirit while portraying the lone battle of a simple villager, Shankar (Dilip Kumar), against the all-pervading industrialisation, an issue that continues to be relevant in this age of globalisation.

Besides its Hindi version, ‘Naya Daur’ will also be available for download in English, Arabic, Dutch and Deutche subtitled versions, the sources said.

The Internet release of the colourised ‘Naya Daur’ follows the on line release of latest Bollywood films - beginning from Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Vivah’ on Rajshri.com simultaneously with its theatrical release, followed by Anurag Basu’s ‘Life In a Metro’ on May 11, Sagar Bellary’s ‘Bheja Fry’ and Rohan Sippy’s ‘Bluffmaster’.

Further, soon to be available on the portal are films like the recently-released Indra Kumar’s ‘Dhamaal’ and the soon-to-be released ‘Manorama-Six Feet Under’.

While ‘Dhamaal’, which features Bolywood actors Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Javed Jaffery, will be released online on on September 21, two weeks after its theatrical release, ‘Manorama Six Feet Under’ will release on the web on September 28, a week after its release in theatres.

The release of latest Bollywood blockbusters on the Internet is part of an initiative by Rajshri.com from where net surfers can stream and download hundreds of full length feature films including blockbusters like ‘Phir Hera Pheri’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Ek Duje Ke liye’, ‘Love In Tokyo’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and many others.

In addition to the Bollywood films, the website has also made available on the net film and non-film music videos, concerts, humour clips, short films and documentaries licensed from most respected individuals and organizations in their fields.

Conceptually, it is the first initiative of its kind not only in India but also in the world.
