The designated TADA court today said it will decide the fate of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt and his three friends on July 31, the last verdict to be delivered in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
Accompanied by his lawyer Satishmane Shinde, the cine star appeared before TADA judge P D Kode along with his three friends Yusuf Nalwalla, Karsi Adjania and Russi Mulla at 1055 hrs sharp and was asked to appear on July 31 when court will hand out the quantumn of punishment on him and his friends under the Arms Act.
Unlike his previous appearances in the court, the film actor was today looking calm and relaxed.
It may be recalled that Dutt had earlier been convicted, along with his three friends under the Arms Act, which entails a maximum punishment of 10 years.
However, soon after his conviction, the film star had moved an application before the court, seeking relief under the Probation of Offenders Act.
The State Government has already submitted its report in this regard, and now the Court’s response is awaited.
So far the court has awarded punishment to 96 of the 100 convicted in the blast case. Of these, 12 have been awarded death sentence, while another 20 have been given life terms. The rest have been awarded punishment ranging from 3 years to 14 years.
The police had sealed the lane from Jacob Circle, which leads to the TADA Court at the Arthur Road Jail. Extra police bandobast was deployed both inside and outside the court.
