India’s first composite animation flick ‘My Friend Ganesha’ opens to terrific response
India’s first composite animation flick and latest ‘kiddie caper’- ‘My Friend Ganesha’ opened to an incredible response across the country on Friday.
The film combines animation with real life characters to create a fascinating tale of a young boy, who befriends young Lord Ganesha.
An interesting mix of mythology and fiction, ‘My Friend Ganesha’ went down well with the audiences especially the young ones who were completely bowled over by the film.
‘The movie was very good. I liked the Ganesha and the child. At the end of the film, they showed that Ganesha is put into the sea and the child starts crying,’ said Vidhu, a 5-year-old.
‘Movie was very good. Every child must see this movie. I thoroughly enjoyed and my son also enjoyed a lot,’ said Rekha Kohli, an audience.
The film revolves around a young boy named Aaditya, who is the only child of his working parents leading an alienated and lonely life.
And how his life completely transforms, after he finds company in Hindu elephant god ‘Ganesha’ a new friend who enters his life and becomes his mate.
One day Aaditya brings home a mouse after he saves it from drowning. His maid then narrates to him a mythological tale revolving around ‘Ganesha’.
Meanwhile, the family is going through a crisis, which also coincides with Ganesha festival. Aaditya’s family brings home an idol of the god and it is then, that things start taking a turn for the better, as Ganesha helps the family tide over their problems while becoming pals with Aaditya.
Child actor Ahsaas Channa, who is actually a girl, plays the character of ‘Aaditya’ along with the animated character ‘Ganesha’ in this film.
Made on a budget of 45 million rupees, the film took six months of extensive labour for completion.
Replete with high-end graphics and animation the film is a delightful venture by the makers into kiddie circuit.
‘We had to make a children movie and had to make an animation movie also. (So we were caught between) how to make a children movie and an animated movie. So, we decided to do first composite movie of India,’ said Rajiv Ruia, director of the film.
The makers are also planning a sequel to the film tilted ‘Ganesha Rocks New York’, a film that would take the story forward.
The film is already underway and would hit the theatres by the end of 2007.
