Farhan Akhtar to direct his first period film
Farhan Akhtar is just back from his family holiday and is all set to direct his first period film.
“Yes, I’m planning to direct my first period film. Tentatively titled ‘Voice From The Sky’, it is set at the turn of the last century … around 1905. I’ve spoken to Irrfan Khan. He’s an actor I’ve admired for a long time, and not just after ‘The Namesake’ and ‘Metro’. I waited to find a project that would be suitable for both of us.”
“Voice From The Sky” is about the communication system. “It goes back to a time when the telephone had just emerged as the new means of communication. I’m dedicating the film to my mom,” Farhan said.
This would be the first of several projects that Farhan’s production house has lined up for the coming year.
“My production house will first get busy with films directed by my sister Zoya Akhtar, my talented associate Reema Kagti, Abhishek Kapoor and by a very capable director Abhinay Deol. The important thing is to create a platform for good ideas and good scripts through our production house,” he said.
Farhan’s “Voice From The Sky” will also feature a whole array of children from various age groups.
“This was the film I’d have made right after my debut ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. But with no multiplexes around then the time was wrong. I think the right time for ‘Voice From The Sky’ is now.”
