‘Awarapan’ gets Pakistan Censor Board’s green signal
The Pakistan Film Censor Board has cleared the screening of the Bollywood film ‘Awarapan’ in the country.
Executive producer and investor of ‘Awarapan’ Sohail Khan said the film would be shown in Pakistan from July 6.
‘The film has been censored. Our main concern now is that PEMRA should ensure that cable TV operators do not air it as the pirated DVDs and VCDs have reportedly already hit the market,’ said Khan.
The Pakistan Film Exhibitors Association (PFEA) has welcomed the move.
‘Co-productions release here was a step in the right direction. It will encourage the potential investors and producers and help in the revival of our film industry as artists, directors and technicians would get a chance to be part of big film projects,’ Chairman PFEA Jehanzeb Baig was quoted by The Nation as saying.
Following the censor board’s nod, Lollywood is debating whether co-productions or Indian films should be allowed in the country or not.
While cinema theatre owners support this move, several Lollywood producers, directors and actors have expressed concern about it hampering of the local film industry.
