Kissing row: Shilpa Shetty moves Supreme Court
Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty today urged the Supreme Court to stay criminal proceedings against her in connection with the kissing episode, involving Hollywood actor Richard Gere.
Criminal cases were registered against Shilpa her at the Jodhpur, Ghaziabad and Munawar (Halwar) police stations. Shilpa has sought a quashing of all criminal cases.
A bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan will hear the matter on Tuesday.
The controversy began after Gere kissed Shilpa during an AIDS awareness programme in Delhi.
A warrant was issued for Gere’s arrest, setting off a protest from senior lawyers who said that there was no ‘legal merit in the case’.
Later, the judge, Dinesh Gupta, who issued the warrant, was transferred from Jaipur to the town of Kishangarh.
But, the authorities are insisting that the transfer was a routine one and for ‘administrative reasons’.
