TADA court adjourns hearing of Sanjay Dutt’s plea till May 9
The TADA court today adjourned the hearing of Sanjay Dutt’s application of Probation of Offender’s Act. The court will hear the case on May 9.
“Today the court has adjourned the hearing on the point of the decision of sanjay dutt’s application of probation of offenders act because many of the accused have also preferred an application under the act,” Ujjwal Nikam, Special Public Prosecutor, told reporters after the court proceedings.
He went on to say, “The court has adjourned the hearing of all these applications i.e. the judgement on these application till May 9 and the court has made it very clear while deciding these applications the court is likely to award the sentence also.”
Dutt, 47, has been convicted of buying illegal arms from gangsters involved in India’s worst-ever bombings. He was cleared of conspiracy in the serial bombings of 1993 in Mumbai, the country’s financial and film capital, which killed 257 people.
Dutt has been out on bail since 1995 after spending over a year in prison during initial investigations into the blasts.
A special court looking into the case, on February 8, extended his bail plea till further orders. Dutt has been seeking bail on grounds that he has to take care of his daughter who stays in United States.
The anti-terrorism court found 100 people guilty in connection with the blasts in one of the world’s longest-running trials.
Son of Sunil Dutt and Nargis, the actor initially said he had bought an automatic rifle from gangsters involved in the bombing, but only to protect his family. He later retracted the statement.
