FIR filed against Mandira Bedi for ‘insulting’ tri-colour

A case was registered against TV anchor Mandira Bedi here on Saturday night for wearing a sari having the national flag on it.

In an FIR filed in Shipra Path Police Station, Mandira and her dress designer Punit Nanda have been accused for insulting the Indian tri-colour.

During the live telecast of the Cricket World Cup final match on SetMax yesterday evening, Mandira wore a sari of multi flag designs in which Indian flag was placed on the lower half.

The complainant accused Mandira and her dress designer for insulting the national flag deliberately.

Meanwhile, Mandira has apologised to the nation for wearing the sari, saying it was an “inadvertent” lapse.

“I deeply apologise… I didn’t mean to disrespect the (Indian) national flag,” she said.

Although police has registered the case, they said they would consult the matter with constitutional experts first and then only they would decide whether it has to be taken to the court or not.
