Basu’s ‘Metro’ first Hindi film to premiere in three continents

Swanky cellphones equipped with cameras, internet et al; low cost airlines that have made commuting between far away cities faster and the glitzy malls at every nook and corner of the city.

These offshoots of modern technology may have made this world an easier place to live in but it has also resulted in increasing number of short-lived relationships, perhaps arising out of human beings having too many choices and chasing too many dreams.

Chronicling the journey undertaken daily by people staying in metros across the world, be it Delhi, Mumbai, London or Melbourne - from the euphoria of a fast paced life, to the breakdown of a short-lived relationship - will be Anurag Basu’s ‘Metro’, which is all set to become the first Hindi film to premiere in three continents.

Featuring an ensemble cast of Shilpa Shetty, Shiney Ahuja, Kay Kay Menon, Konkana Sen Sharma, Sharman Joshi and Kangna Ranaut, the UTV-produced ‘Metro’ deals with ”the thrills and shrills” of being a metro citizen - a theme that cuts across international barriers.

It is in keeping with the universal theme of the film that finds its reflection in ”urban life” the world over that the producers of the film, UTV, have charted out a grand worldwide release for the film on May 11 with a three continent première that includes metros like Dubai, London, Melbourne, Mumbai - first time for a Hindi film.

Prior to the release of the film, the ”musical quartet” of Music director Pritam (of ‘Dhoom 2′ and ‘Gangster’ fame), Bangladeshi singer James (famous for his rendition of ‘Bheegi Bheegi’ in ‘Gangster’), playback singers Soham and Sohail will fan out across India in their bid to provide the ‘Urbanites’ in the country a slice of the film through its music, which has already climbed popularity charts in India and abroad.

The ”musical promotion” by Pritam, James, Soham and Sohail, who have together formed ”Band Metro” to provide cinegoers a ‘’slice of life” through the music of the film, will see them set out for a four city tour across India in cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Pune and Bangalore where they would perform live at theatres, clubs, pubs to give the audience a slice of the film through music, which is an integral part of the film storyline.

Talking about the unique promotional strategy for ‘Metro’, Siddharth Roy Kapur, EVP - Marketing, Distribution & Syndication, UTV, said, ”we plan to take the film ‘Metro’ across the globe as it’s the story of people living in a metro, they could be anywhere in the world.” ”Thus keeping this universal theme in mind, we première the film across prominent metros of the world like Dubai, London, Melbourne, Mumbai backed by whole host of marketing blitz.” Beginning May 8, UTV will hold premieres of the film in Dubai, London, Melbourne and then Mumbai where the entire cast and crew of the film including UTV CEO Ronnie Screwvala, Director Anurag Basu as well as actors Shilpa Shetty, Shiney Ahuja and Sharman Joshi will be present.
