Ray could shelve ‘Feluda’ thriller, make another

The shooting of ‘Feluda’ thriller ‘Tintoretor Jishu’ (Tintoreto’s Jesus) has been halted indefinitely and could be shelved, but director Sandip Ray is taking up another story featuring the ace fictional detective created by his illustrious father Satyajit Ray.

“The shooting of Tintoretor Jishu in Hong Kong could not take place despite being fixed three times and it has not been completed on the 40th year of creation of ‘Feluda’ by my father,” Ray told PTI.

“This is an unexpected turn of events for us all. We all so sincerely wanted the film to hit the screen by this year as part of a plan to do one Feluda film every alternate year,” he said.

The Hong Kong backdrop, so essential for the film’s look and feel, could not be shot. “If problems recur and I cannot shoot in Hong Kong, I will not go for any compromise and the film will have to be shelved,” Ray said.

On the other hand, he was hopeful that shooting of another Feluda thriller ‘Kailashe Kelenkari’ (Disaster in Kailash) will be wrapped up to hit the screen by December, he said.

He has has finalised the producer of ‘Kailashe Kelenekari’ and the outdoor shoot.

Ray’s Feluda film ‘Bombaier Bombete’ (the Bandits of Mumbai) was a super hit in 2004, 29 years after the making of the first Feluda film ‘Sonar Kella’ (The Golden Fort) by his father and 25 years after the last film on the Bengali sleuth ‘Jai Baba Felunath’, by the maestro.
