Announcing the dates for the Fifth Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) 2007 from March 15, the organisers today hoped that students, who are appearing for their board examinations, would also be able to attend the festival.

“Because of some unavoidable ‘administrative’ reasons, we had to opt for March. The fact that it is the period of examinations is worrisome. However, we still hope the students would be part of the Film Festival,” PIFF Chairman Suresh Kalmadi and director Jabbar Patel said at a joint press conference here today.

The festival will conclude on March 22.

The sixth Pune International Film Festival would postively be held in the second week of January 2008 and not at the period when exams are on, they said.

“We expect more than 3,000 delegates to attend the film festival in which over 120 films from 70 countries would be shown at four venues in the city namely the Inox, E-Square, Ganesh Kala Krida and the National Film Archives of India”, they said.

Of the 14 entries received for the competitive section in the category of world cinema, two are Indian language films, they said, adding that there would a section for competitive Marathi cinema too.
