Film festival of the Indian woman

A film festival focussing on the the contemporary Indian woman will get underway today at the Siri Fort Auditorium here.

The five-day festival will showcase the emerging Indian women through works by well-known directors, including Satyajit Ray and Shyam Benegal, and begin with the screening of ‘Mitr-My Friend’ directed by Revathy.

The festival is jointly held by the Ministries of Information and Broadcasting and Women and Child Development.

Other films to be screened at the festival are “Not Only Mrs Raut” (Marathi, Dir. Gajendra Ahire), “Paromitar Ek Din (Bengali, Dir. Aparna Sen), Zubaida (Hindi, Dir Shyam Benegal), “Perumazhakkalam” (Malayalam, Dir. Kamal), “Dosar” (Bengali, Dir. Rituparno Ghosh), Chandni Bar (Hindi, Dir. Madhur Bhandarkar), “Sringaram”, (Tamil, Dir. Sharda Ramanathan) and “Devi” (Bengali, Dir. Satyajit Ray).
