Actor Mohnish Bahl, who has a case registered against him by a civic body, was today granted permission by the Bombay High Court to renew his passport and go to London for a film shoot.

Justice J H Bhatia gave the “no objection” sought by Bahl for renewing his passport and going abroad for shooting Vikram Bhatt’s film “Phir”.

The Regional Passport Authority had refused to renew the passport without the court’s permission as Bahl is involved in the litigation filed by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM).

The civic body’s counsel informed the court today that it had no objection to the permission being granted to him.

Bahl’s counsel Rochi Ramani told the court that the criminal complaint was impleaded on his client for being the son of Rajnish Bahl, who was served a notice by the civic body as he owned a flat that needed repairs.

But Bahl was not liable to the MCGM in the case as he was not the owner of the disputed flat, said Ramani.

Rajnish’s flat at Dadar required repairs to stop leakage to lower floors. The MCGM filed a criminal case in the metropolitan magistrate’s court for not carrying out the repairs despite a notice from the ward officer.

On Rajnish’s death, the MCGM impleaded Bahl in the case for being the legal heir of Rajnish.

Bahl had approached the sessions court, which discharged from the case, said Ramani. But the MCGM filed an appeal in the High Court that is still pending.

The passport authority refused to renew Bahl’s passport or to allow him to travel abroad due to this pending litigation unless he got permission from court.
