Effigies of Bachchan featuring in an advertisement supporting the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) were burnt. The advertisement currently running on most television channels, and praises the achievements of the party.

‘Amitabh Bachchan is trying to project a wrong image of Uttar Pradesh. In the advertisement, he claims that there is no crime in the state. This is a state where a human being eats other humans and so we had a ‘Nithari.’ Besides a poet was killed, women face atrocities and the actor says there is no crime in the state. There is no Central report verifying the claims of the actor. He is lying and so we decided to burn his effigy,’ said Ashok Pandey, a leader of BJP’s youth wing.

An estimated 114 million people will be eligible to vote in the elections to be held between April 7 and May 8.
