Lata Mangeshkar presented award
(No Ratings Yet)Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar has been presented the “Uttam Bajykar Jiyalal Vasant Award” for her contribution to the field of music.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh presented the trophy to the melody queen at a function here last evening in the presence of artistes like actor Rekha and tabla maestro Zakir Hussain.
The award, which is in its seventh year, has been instituted by singer Suresh Wadkar and his family.
“I am honoured to have a student like Suresh (Wadkar). He is a very dedicated worker and today he has honoured me with this award,” said Mangeshkar.
Praising the singer, Deshmukh said “Next time this award function should be held in a huge arena like Shivaji Park rather than in a closed auditorium because more and more people now want to listen to serious, classical music.” Past recipients of the award include flute maestro Hari Prasad Churasia and Pandit Ram Narain.
