Gujarat’s multliplexes may screen ‘Parzania’ after Feb 9
Bowed to pressure from the media and public, the Multiplex Owners Association here is likely to screen “Parzania”, the movie based on the true story of a Parsi boy who went missing during communal violence in Gujarat in 2002.
“We may screen ‘Parzania’ after February 9. We have sought the film’s print and will view it first. This decision has been taken after much pressure from the media and public to show the movie,” Multiplex Owners Association president Manubhai Patel told PTI here today.
He said he had not yet spoken to the movie’s director Rahul Dholakia regarding this possible change of stand.
Gujarat was the only state where the film starring Naseeruddin Shah and Sarika was not released last week after the local unit of the Bajrang Dal opposed its screening.
Though cinema owners and the Multiplex Association did not mention names, they did say they were not screening the movie as “some persons” had told them not to do so as it could cause law and order problems.
Bajrang Dal leaders said they would not allow the movie to be screened in Gujarat unless they cleared it first.
“Parzania” is the story of Parzan, a Parsi boy from the Gulberg Society here who went missing when a mob attacked the area on March 1, 2002. Over 30 people were killed in the attack.
