Bollywood rubs shoulders with Hollywood on mobile screens
Indian moviemakers are dreaming big for the ’screen’ in your pocket. This was more than evident at the recently concluded 3GSM Congress in Barcelona, where Bollywood showcased its potential to deliver films on mobile phones.
If ‘Kaante’ and ‘Zinda’ fame director and producer Sanjay Gupta showcased three short films specially made for the “fourth screen” as part of his Dus Kahaniyan– a collection of 10 short stories, Adlabs unveiled a sneak peek of their international project movie ‘Marigold’ on the mobile phones.
They rubbed shoulders with short films sponsored by Hollywood actor Robert Redford’s Sundance Film Institute.
“These films have been made keeping in mind the limitations of the screen size of the mobiles, such as restricting intense movements in the movie and they have been transcoded such that even on the lowest handset which is supported, it will be flicker free and have a smooth resolution,” says Saleem Mobhani - Chief Operating Officer, Hungama Mobile.
Hungama is an aggregator, developer and publisher of Indian Entertainment and Bollywood content for mobile phones.
On the quality of cinema on the mobile phones, even on the low resolution ones, people in the field are confident that the technology is in place.
