‘Bandit queen’ turns court appearance into media event
A routine court appearance for an alleged female dacoit from the Chambal ravines here today ended up as an opportunity to publicise a movie starring her.
An accused in seven cases, including dacoity and murder, Seema Parihar, also the lead actor in the low-budget “Wounded”, was granted bail by the Allahabad High Court on conditions that she would appear in court in the first week of every month wherever she was.
Parihar was in Mumbai on some work related to “Wounded” - set to be released shortly - and decided to be present in the court today.
The media was, however, discreetly alerted about the presence of “the dacoit from Chambal” at the Esplanade court and was not disappointed as it managed to gather sound bytes from the dacoit-turned-actress.
Clad in blue denim trousers and a white top, Parihar said, “I was here regarding the publicity of my film, which is to be released shortly. We have really worked hard on the project.
“I was just complying with the orders of the Allahabad High Court which bought me to the court.” Parihar is said to be staying in northwest Mumbai’s Oshiwara locality, home to many a production house.
The debutant actor signed off with a photo-op for eager lensmen - holding the publicity poster of her film.
