Nayyar an innovative genius, Says PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today condoled the death of noted music director O P Nayyar describing him as an “innovative genius”.

Nayyar was “a creative and innovative musical genius who endeared himself to many generations”, the Prime Minister said in his message.

Nayyar, best known for classic songs like “Jhumka Gira Re” and “Pukarta Chala Hoon Mein”, died of cardiac arrest at his home in Thane today.

In a condolence message, Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna said “Nayyar had brought a refreshing change in Indian film music. He was a trendsetter who evolved his own distinct style and gave several all-time hits”.

The late composer was also instrumental in giving the music world some of the finest playback singers, he added.

The film industry has lost a “doyen who enriched the Hindi film music with his inimitable style and melodious music”, Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said here.
