Hindi author Kamleshwar dead
Noted Hindi writer Kamleshwar passed away Saturday night after suffering a cardiac arrest while returning home to Faridabad from Delhi where he had gone to attend a programme. He was 75.
The Padma Bhushan awardee was not keeping well for some time. He had undergone a by-pass surgery earlier. He is survived by his wife and daughter.
Born on Jan 6, 1932, at Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, Kamleshwar received the Padma Bhushan in year 2005 for his contribution in the field of Hindi literature. He worked as an additional director general of state-run television Doordarshan and edited several prominent Hindi newspapers and magazines. He also wrote several scripts.
He won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award in 2003 for his novel “Kitney Pakistan (How many Pakistans)” based on the Partition of India in 1947.
