‘Baabul’, the family drama focussing on widow remarriage and starring Bollywood icon and Uttar Pradesh brand ambassador Amitabh Bachchan, was today exempted from entertainment tax in the state for three months.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav here.

The proposal for exempting the film from the trade tax was placed before the Cabinet on the recommendation of UP Development Council chairman Amar Singh, officials said.

The film is produced by B R Chopra, directed by Ravi Chopra and features Hema Malini, Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee, John Abraham and Om Puri besides Bachchan.

Ever since the Samajwadi Party took over the reins of the state in August 2003, all films starring Amitabh and son Abhishek Bachchan have been made tax-free by the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.
