Abhishek-Aishwarya engagement cheers fans in Amritsar

As television news channels splashed the news of engagement of Bollywood stars Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai on Sunday evening , a wave of joy has overwhelmed the general mood here in Punjab.

A number of fans of the most talked couple of Bollywood chanted the “Sukhmani Sahib Path”- the Sikhs holy verses- and performed “Ardass” (a religious prayer to seek blessings) for the well being of the couple.

For the family of Sarabjeet Singh, an ardent fan of Bachchan family, it was a joyous moment, as his family and relatives here performed special prayers before Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikhs’ holy scripture and read “Sukhmani Sahib” at their resident on Monday.

“We are so happy to know that Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have engaged and that they would soon get married. We have prayed to the Almighty for their happiness and successful life,” said Sarabjeet Singh.

“I am delighted to know about their engagement and wish them congratulations,” said Simple Arora, another fan of Abhishek Bachchchan.

“I am very happy to know about this much awaited news which was doing rounds for so many weeks in Bollywood and almost everyone here in our colony who has been Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek’s fan, is delighted. I was invited to attend the special religious function meant to pray for the new couple’s a happy life. My heartiest congratulations are with Aishwariya and Abhishek,” said Ravinder Singh, another local resident.
