Bhansali moves HC

Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali today approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash an FIR registered against him for allegedly using LPG cylinders illegally on the set of a movie.

Justice A S Oak adjourned the matter to January 16.

The complaint against Bhansali was filed by antique furniture dealer Farida Hoosenally after a fire, allegedly caused due to the cylinders, on the set of the film `Black’ destroyed furniture worth several lakhs in February 2004.

The case against Bhansali was filed for violation of provisions of the Essential Commodities Act and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Order.

Bhansali, in his application, stated that it was the production company which handled the administrative work on sets and he had nothing to do with the use of the gas cylinders.

In March 2006, Hoosenally approached the Metropolitan Magistrate Court at suburban Borivali seeking an FIR to be lodged against the director and his production house, Applause Bhansali Films.

After the FIR was filed, the Magistrate’s court later transferred the case from the Aarey police station to the Borivali police on account of alleged inaction of the former.

The case is at present pending before the magistrate’s court.
