Amitabh’s fans face disappointment

Fans of mega star Amitabh Bachchan who hoped to see him as a participant in the TV game show “Kaun Banega Crorepati” to be hosted by actor Shahrukh Khan are in for disappointment as he is apparently not inclined to join the programme in its new avtaar.

“Bachchan was very categorical that he would always be the host and not be on the hot seat himself,” Siddhartha Basu, the producer of the show, told a press conference here.

He, however, added, “We will still request him to come to the show and be a part of it. We would be happy and grateful to have him on the show.” The new season of KBC will be telecast Monday to Thursday at 9 pm on Star TV from the last week of January 2007. It will have prize money of Rs two crore.

“A model set has been created at my home so that I can become familar with the pattern and technicalities of the show before we start the shoot,” new host Shah Rukh said.

Asked whether terms like “Lock Kiya Jai” made popular by Bachchan and the hooter sound on completion of time would remain in the new season, he said the creative aspects of the show are still being finalised. “Everything will be clear by this month-end,” he said.

Justifying the new red background for the show, as against the blue used in the shows hosted by Bachchan, Shah Rukh said, “Amitabh is like the sky which is blue and would always have his eyes and blessings on us and the new red colour is for me, ‘the Mai Ka Lal’.” Shah Rukh, who has been signed on for two seasons or roughly 100 episodes for an undisclosed sum, is set to don the mantle of the quizmaster from next month.
