Tight Security to be deployed at IFFI venues
Goa government today said it will deploy around 1,000 policemen to take care of the security at the venues of the International Film Festival of India 2006.
Goa Chief Secretary J P Singh told reporters here that “both the IFFI venues — Kala Academy and Inox Multiplex — would be manned by strong security force.” “We have requisitioned four companies of para military forces which will team up up with Goa police to manage the security,” he said.
The 11-day IFFI-2006 begins here on November 23.
“Everywhere there will be frisking and scanning… We will keep watch on every movement of people,” the Chief Secretary said adding “plain cloth policemen would be posted at strategic locations”.
“Overall climate is such that there is a perception that a place like Goa can be a soft target,” Singh said adding that, however, there is no specific security threat to the state from any terrorist organisation.
He appealed the people to cooperate with the security men.
“All agencies are concerned that anti-social forces should not exploit the situation in Goa… We are keeping the security for everyone’s safety,” the Chief Secretary added.
