Sanjay leaves for Delhi to visit ailing lawyer

Actor Sanjay Dutt, accused in the 1993 bomb blasts case, today left here for New Delhi to meet his ailing lawyer Rajendra Singh.

TADA court Judge P D Kode allowed Sanjay to visit Delhi for two days and asked him to return by November 24.

Sanjay’s lawyer Farhana Shah pleaded that Singh was not keeping well and the actor wanted to meet him.

Singh had argued Sanjay’s case before the TADA court and the actor’s visit to Delhi is to express his gratitude to the leading legal luminary, said Shah.

The court asked Sanjay to file his programe with the registrar and told him not to make any contact with the absconding accused in the bomb blasts case.

Sanjay is facing the charge of possessing an AK-56 rifle and later destroying it. The CBI has produced a spring and rod to claim they were parts of the rifle destroyed in a foundry by the actor’s friends. Sanjay and the other accused confessed their involvement but later retracted their statements.

The CBI has alleged that some accused had visited Sanjay’s Bandra residence and handed over the AK-56 rifle and other arms to him. Sanjay has denied these allegations and witnesses later turned hostile.

The court is yet to declare its verdict on the alleged involvement of Sanjay and his friends in possessing the rifle.
