Sanjay Dutt may be put in an egg-shaped cell, If convicted

If convicted for possession of an AK-47 assault rifle during the 993 Mumbai serial blasts, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt could be housed in the “Unda Cell” or egg-shaped cell of the Arthur Road Jail here.

According to a television channel report, the “Unda Cell” is an isolation cell shaped like an egg and meant for terrorists and hardcore criminals. Dutt was kept briefly in this cell during his 18-month prison stint in 1993-94.

The Arthur Road Jail is home to some of the country’s most dreaded gangsters, many of them from the Chhota Rajan and Dawood gangs.

The jail has 22 barracks meant to house 800 undertrials, but is currently home to 3000.

Among the inmates in the jail are Dawood’s brother Iqbal Kaskar and his key aides Ejas Pathan, Saleem Shaikh and Ehtesham Haji. The Chhota Rajan gang is represented by DK Rao, Saji Joseph and Vineet Yadav.

Before TADA court Judge P.D. Kode began delivering his order, the barrack housing the “Unda Cell” already had 30 blast accused. Since then, 60 more have been added.
