Remaking of old films not a good idea says Kher
Remakes reflect bankruptcy of ideas and cannot replace the nostaliga attached to the original, veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher said today.
There is no shortage of ideas in the country and there is no reason why people should say they are remaking the old ones, he said.
“If films flop, people will themselves restrain making them,” Kher, who is member secretary of the Chandigarh Tourism Advisory Forum, told PTI here after attending its meeting.
Without commenting on the the Aishwarya Rai starrer ‘Umrao Jaan’ which failed to enthuse audiences, Kher said “you cannot replace nostaliga adding “Those moments are part of our lives, you cannot remake them”.
Kher, however, said that as an actor he may act in such remake films, but if he was a director or a producer he would definitely avoid venturing into such projects.
He said that he regarded the current period in Hindi cinema as its “golden period” and added “this is an era of professionals now”.
Asked if he had any plans to turn into a director himself, he said currently he was writing a script and by March next year he should take a plunge into this field.
“I am working on making a romantic comedy,” the versatile actor said.
