Regional stars will add spice to this year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI) beginning in Goa from November 23.

“Performers from regional cinema like Prabhu Deva from the south, Harbhajan Mann from Punjab and Bhojpuri cinema star Manoj Tiwari will be among a number of performers from different parts of the country who will electrify the atmosphere,” Goa’s Chief Secretary J P Singh told reporters here today.

Laying stress on “branding”, Singh said the success of international film festivals like Cannes was only achieved over a period of time.

“I believe that Goa should now be made a permanent venue to host the IFFI as it will help in its branding,” Singh said.

To reach out to a wider audience, beach screening and mobile screening would also be done in Goa, he said.

“We want to make Goa a film hub. Many have already shown interest in setting up a film studio here. An international convention centre is on the anvil as there is a big thrust on improving our infrastructure which includes six-lanining of the higways,” he said.

Nandini Paliwal, Chief Executive Officer of the Entertainment Society of Goa, a nodal agency set up by the Government of Goa in 2004 for the organisation of the IFFI, said the Festival will be inaugurated by veteran film actor Shashi Kapoor and this year’s theme is ‘The Whole World is One Family’.
