Rajshri Productions back with movie on weddings
After the failure of its last film, ‘Main Prem ki Deewani Hoon’, Rajshri Productions is back with a movie on what they do best — weddings and the Indian middle class.
Their next venture, ‘Vivaah’, starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao, is the story of a young couple and their journey of love from their engagement to marriage and is conceptualized by in-house director Sooraj Barjatya.
Barjatya, who has directed some of the biggest hits in Indian cinema, including “Maine Pyaar Kiya” and “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”, came in for some flak from critics for his last film “Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon”.
“After MPKDH was not appreciated, I went to my father and he suggested this story to me. He said this was a film only I could make and it would bring my confidence back. I didn’t question him at all and just went ahead and made the film,” Barjatya told reporters here.
“For me, this movie is a return to innocence…Going back to my roots. It is a story which begins where most films end at the engagement of two individuals. I hope that the audience can relate to this concept,” he added.
Talking about his role in the film, actor Shahid Kapoor said, “I am totally alien to the concept of going to see a girl for marriage. That is why I was so fascinated by this role.” The film releases on November 10.
