Well-known Oriya director Sabyasachi Mohapatra’s mythological film “Jai Jagannath” has become the first Indian movie to be made simultaneously in 15 languages.

Based on the ancient scripture “Lakshmi Puran”, the film was made in Oriya and Hindi first and later dubbed in other 13 Indian languages, including English. The film is set for worldwide release in January 2007.

Mohapatra has won several national and international awards, including the prestigious Utkal Jyoti award.

Sritam Das and Rupa Mishra play the main leads in the film about untouchables in the ancient ages not allowed to pray, worship or perform rituals.

The film revolves around Sriya, who dares to pray and worship and wins over goddess Lakshmi, who is boycotted by Lord Jagannath at the behest of his brother Balabhadra because she ends discrimination on earth by encouraging untouchables to worship.

Earlier, Mohapatra’s sensitively handled film “Bhuka” was lauded by critics both in India and abroad. The director has also made documentaries like “India 24 Hours”.
