Goa to hone skills of aspiring filmmakers
Ahead of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa’s art and culture department has initiated an exercise to hone skills of aspiring filmmakers.
“Around 50 participants are learning the skills of making film. Right from script writing, direction, cinematography to editing, they get lessons on the nitty gritty of filmmaking,” an official of the department said.
Noted director Parvati Menon, cameraman Satish Bhatia and editor Rahul Gaikwal are serving as resource persons for this endeavour.
“Eminent film director Sayeed Mirza will be present for the concluding function of this course on November 20, just three days before the film festival,” the official said.
The department, involved in the IFFI for the first time, has held film appreciation and journalism courses in which 100 participants, including journalism students, learnt film analysis and criticism.
During the festival, the department has announced a special competition called “25 Frames” that will provide an opportunity to a selected few to produce a short film.
“This competition is open only for Goan filmmakers. This is our effort to get rid of Goa’s image as a state without film culture,” remarked another official.
The competition, done with the involvement of local firm Vinsan Graphics, will be based on the theme “Me and You”. The participants will get 12 hours to shoot their films and 12 hours to edit them, officials said.
