Goa lacks film culture says Jahnu
As Goa lacked a film culture, making it a permanent venue of IFFI would be a blunder, award winning Assamese film director Jahnu Barua said.
“You have to understand cinema to conduct the festival. There should be a film culture and that can be built in Goa by forming film societies,” Barua, the only Indian in the jury rubbing shoulders with film makers like Olivier Assayas (France), Granzyna Szapolowska (Poland) and Leticia Bredice (Argentina) at IFFI-2006,” told PTI here today.
“Goa has a lot of scope to improve and if they think of doing it (IFFI) prematurely, it would be a blunder,” he said.
“Unlike Kolkata and Kerala, which hold the state film festivals, Goa has no film environment. It is a matter of time and till then, the state should not think of taking over the event,” Barua said.
“If the situation remains like this, the festival will become worst,” he added.
