‘Gandhi’ to be screend at Goa film festival
The International Film Festival of India (IFFI), beginning in Goa from November 23, will feature a special retrospective of Prithviraj Kapoor’s films and screen Richard Attenborough’s `Gandhi’ to mark the centenary of Satyagraha launched by the Mahatama.
“India’s most prestigious film festival boasts of some of the finest movies made in the past year and it will open with the Ponelope Cruz-starrer comedy `Volver’ that bagged the Best Screenplay and Best Actress awards at the Cannes festival, Entertainment Society Of Goa (ESG), the nodal agency for the 11-day festival, said in a release here today.
The Society members were here to promote the festival and also launched its posters.
The event will sign off with Brad Pitt’s `Babel’, winner of the Best Director at Cannes, whose storyline traverses from America to Japan.
Critically acclaimed films from Asia, Africa and Latin America will compete for the ‘Golden Peacock’ while 40 countries from around the world will showcase cinematic creatvity in the `Cinema of The World’ section, the release added.
The festival with the theme `The Whole World is One Family’ will be inaugurated by veteran actor Shashi Kapoor.
“IFFI 2006 will offer the best of world cinema with acclaimed films from across the globe. The festival represents a kaleidoscope of cultures and creates a medium to appreciate and share cinematic excellence,” Nandini Paliwal, CEO, Entertainent Society of Goa, said.
