France’s tourism authorities are keen on attracting Bollywood filmmakers to shoot in that country so that its scenic locations can be showcased for Indian travellers, an official has said.

France, which entertains around 75 million tourists every year, finds Hindi movies the right channel to market destinations across the country, said Frank Priot, deputy director of the French Film Commission.

“Some regional tourism boards want to promote their areas through Indian movies and are open to exploring deals with high-profile productions,” said Priot, whose commission is 95 per cent government supported.

“If you want, we (Film Commission) can connect you with the tourism boards,” Priot said while participating in a workshop during the International Film Festival of India here.

He said Bollywood stars are highly appreciated in France. “Recently, there was a film screened in a theatre with a capacity of 4,500 in the presence of Shahrukh Khan, Priety Zinta and Rani Mukherjee and we could see the crowd waving at them and screaming their names. This indicates the tremendous response to Indian stars in France,” Priot said.

“Film producers are highly respected in France and are not looked at as businessmen. Moreover, in France, you will have the flavour of the whole of Europe with the same visa,” he added.
