The films on national heroes lack political analysis of their career and are often mis-represented, renowned Kannada film maker M S Satyu said.

“In last two years, five different films on Bhagat Singh were produced. They were much different from the original Shahid Bhagat Singh by Manoj Kumar,” Satyu said at an open forum, organised as part of the International Film Festival of India here today.

“Personally I feel that in the name of patriotism you don’t politically analyse the character. The main thing becomes how much you feel for these characters,” stated Satyu, who had directed film ‘Kanneshwara Rama’ (The Legendry Outlaw) on the dacoit of Malnad region in Karnataka in 1976.

There are contradictions in the country as to who is a national hero. Everything is decided by politics and many a time great heroes are mis-represented politically, Satyu said.

“At times we tend to make unimportant characters very important,” he said. Film on national heroes is a very controversial subject and difficult to produce, he added.
