Controversy over conduct of premiere of film on Mumbai blasts
Marathi director Gajendra Ahire has come out with a heart-wrenching film on the aftermath of the July 11 commuter train blasts in Mumbai but the cast and crew of the film had a bad experience at the world premiere of the film at the International Film Festival of India here.
For the world premiere, neither was the cast and crew introduced to the audience before the screening nor was any introduction given to the film.
It took the intervention of Marathi veteran actor Ramesh Deo, who went up on stage, stopped the screening and invited the cast and crew on stage before introducing the film.
“This is the world premiere of this movie and you (the organisers) have not even bothered to introduce the film. This has happened only because it is a Marathi film. If it was a Hindi film you would do anything possible,” he said.
“We were told that there would be ushers to lead us inside that our film would be introduced, but nothing like that happened,” Marathi actor and producer of the movie, Aditi Deshpande said.
“It was even listed on the official itinerary that there would be a presentation on the movie, but when I called the event organisers, I was told that it was not necessary,” Deshpande, who along with Sandeep Kulkarni essay the lead roles in the film, said.
“We wanted to make a film about the aftermath of the Mumbai train blasts and how it has affected the common man. The main characters in this film lose their only son in the train blasts and the film is about how they are affected by it,” Ahire told PTI here.
